Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VA)

Mangalore, Nov 15: P V Mohan has been nominated as a member of AICC, the highest policy making body of congress party.

“I am really humbled and honoured for being recognised by the party at the highest level. It is the most defining moment for any party worker particularly for a grassroot worker. I am indebted totaly for this achievement to Oscar Fernandes who is my leader, guide, philosopher and mentor for providing me this opportunuity. He has seen me as a student leader. He has seen me as a social activist, my work and concern for poor, dalits and minority. He knows my firm social stand against corruption, he said.

Further Mohan added, "Oscar Fernandesji gave assignments and responsibilities which think I delivered it to his satisfaction levels." Above all, through my nomination, the party leadership has sent a clear signal
and categorical message that any worker who is loyal, honest, secular and pro-poor will certainly be accommodated in one or the other way in the party for serving society”, said Mohan on being nominated for the post.

About P V Mohan

Mohan was an active member of National Students Union of India (NSUI) and later became the secretary of State Youth Congress Party and also the general secretary of Dakishna Kannada District Congress Party. Recently he has been appointed as a PRO to conduct organizational election of Lakshadweep Congress Party.

After finishing Postgraduation in Journalism & Mass Communication he worked as sub-editor for Mungaru daily for a brief period of time. Later he joined Lankesh Patrike as a correspondent and worked in the position for eight years. He has als worked as editor for an evening daily. After his marriage with Shanthi Misquith, he along with his wife who is a designer started a fashion outlet at Bendoor named Wokhaal, manufacturing wedding dresses and also involved in creative stage decoration. He has two sons, Mayuk
and Sahan and a daughter Simona.

He has been a very successful student leader throughout his educational career. As he was the president of the Student Associations of Government College, he became the president of undivided All College Student’s Union of Mangalore University.

People of the city still recall his guerrilla sort of agitation to cut down the hotel prices which was soaring very high at that time and this movement in 1981 resulted in 10 to 15 paise reduction in all eatables. He was an aggressive and passionate leader. But in Congress politics he took a long time to emerge as a leader. Due to internal squabbles in Congress he really struggled a lot to hold on. His contemporaries have become MLAs, MPs and even ministers. However he struggled and found a place in the party and
carved a niche in congress politics.

Mohan always fought for the issues concerning common people. Railway, road, passport and communalism are some of the main issues which he has raised effectively. Recently he staged a hunger strike for 24 days for the introduction of train services from Mangalore to Bangalore. Few years back aftermath of Surathkal communal riots he observed three days hunger strike in front of DC’s office to force the government to appoint an enquiry commission. After the Babri Masjid was demolished he led a
Padayatra along with over 70 youths, walking 428kms in two districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada for communal harmony. He has also walked a entire stretch padayatra of nearly 320 kms organized by the state Congress from Bangalore to Bellary in protest against the anti- people policies of BJP government.

Congratulation , Mohan , you really desrve this position in fact it should be much more than this.

He proved his leadership quality since his high school days and it continues with more strength.

We have seen him fighting for restarting Mangalore Bangalore train service all alone.

He is a poor mans leader and a real public servant. He proved that on many occations.

May GOD almighty strenghtehen him more to serve the poors and needy.

Really felt happy to know that Mohan got into AICC. Today we are able to travel Mangalore -Bangalore by train only because of his hunger strike. It was not a simple matter to fight against Bus Owner's Lobby. Frequency of trains in this route need to be increased and Mohan, pls try this. Best of luck
