Puttur, Nov 17:
Financial assistance of more than Rs 3,000 crore will be allotted towards providing financial security to 10 lac girls serving under Stree Shakti self-help groups (SHGs) in the state, said CM B S Yeddyurappa.

He was speaking at a programme organised to distribute Bhagyalaxmi bonds and sarees to the beneficiaries under Bhagyalaxmi Yojana, during a function held at the premises of Mahalingeshwar temple here on Wednesday November 17.

The state will provide infrastructure facilities to market the homemade products of Stree Shakti SHGs, in order to make them self-reliant and enable them to lead a dignified life. The state has decided to reserve Rs 500 crore in order to advance loans to flower vendors and petty shop keepers at 6 percent rate of interest, which will improve their economic conditions, he said.

The distribution of sarees to 11.50 lac families across the state will be completed shortly. Every girl will be given a saree each year till she reaches 18 years of age. However, if the beneficiaries do not complete SSLC, additional facilities will not be provided, with the idea of encouraging the beneficiaries to pursue their studies, added the CM.

MLA Mallika Prasad presided over the programme.

Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, women and child welfare minister C C Patil, energy minister Shobha Karandlaje also spoke on the occasion.

State higher education minister Dr V S Acharya, zilla panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, former MLA S Angara, MLA S Yogish Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP D V Sadanand Gowda, Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, MLC Bharathi Shetty, Mangalore mayor Rajani Dugganna, Forest Development Authority chairman S N Manmatha, Cash Development Board chairman Laxman Gowda Kuntikana, state Minority Board chairman Abubakker, taluk panchayat president Savitri Shivaram, town councilor Kamala Anand, APMC president Sitaram Gowda, Stree Shakti SHGs Federation president Pulasya Rai, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, health and family welfare department officer Dr Ramana Reddy, IGP Alok Mohan, Dr Harish Kumar, women and child welfare department director Shakunthala and others were present.

Manohar Prasad compered the programme.

JD(S) Protest

Meanwhile, the local JD(S) activists staged a protest by carrying black flags, opposing the distribution of Bhagyalaxmi bonds and sarees to beneficiaries under Bhagyalaxmi Yojana by CM Yeddyurappa, near the venue here on Wednesday.

The protesters alleged that CM Yeddyurappa has been engaged in distribution of bonds and sarees to get political publicity, with eyes on the  assembly elections.  It’s a move to woo the voters in the constituency.

The city police arrested 25 JD(S) activists including JD(S) taluk president K S N Nidwannaya, JD(S) state chief secretary Ibrahim Golikatte, state youth JD(S) vice president Ashraf Kallega, block committee president Abdul Rehman Unique, local JD(S) leader Kishore Achary, Abdul Rehman Padil, taluk women wing president Padma Maniyan and Jayalaxmi and released them later.

A Chinese proverb goes like this, "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime".
Sanction more education grants for girl student's higher education and professional courses. Reserve more seats for women in soft labour force in various enterprises. Introduce more strict laws to punish women from molestation, ragging, eve teasing, acid throwing, child-labour, prostitution, exploitation etc.

it is foolish idea to distribute sarie. because giving 1 sarie will not raise anybody's std of living. and more foolishness spending so much to distribute Rs. 200 worth sarie. instead the it cold distributed in any of the govt offices. No need these politician personally come give it, because of which the for this simple thing when whole expenses are divided that 1 sarrie may cost Rs. 5000/- is it worth????? instead they they would've give that Rs. 5000/- to those families to start some business. which would indeed help them a lot

Many Bonds, help to the poor, saree distribution, cycle distribution, free books, and many things happened. By next year in Karnataka State will be richest in world based on Mr. CM saree and bond distribution. Every citizen will have house, cloth, food, education, and all the basic things as per our CM generosity. CM must his expenditure every month and we citizens must know why he is wasting our money. It is our tax and we need development and basic things. This useless CM visiting temples and roaming for his political benefit need to be kick out. He is not God fearing or honest to his religion. He want only CM position, power and money.
