Puttur: State to Allot Rs 3000 Cr for Financial Security of 10 Lac Girls: CM

Puttur, Nov 17: Financial assistance of more than Rs 3,000 crore will be allotted towards providing financial security to 10 lac girls serving under Stree Shakti self-help groups (SHGs) in the state, said CM B S Yeddyurappa.
He was speaking at a programme organised to distribute Bhagyalaxmi bonds and sarees to the beneficiaries under Bhagyalaxmi Yojana, during a function held at the premises of Mahalingeshwar temple here on Wednesday November 17.
The state will provide infrastructure facilities to market the homemade products of Stree Shakti SHGs, in order to make them self-reliant and enable them to lead a dignified life. The state has decided to reserve Rs 500 crore in order to advance loans to flower vendors and petty shop keepers at 6 percent rate of interest, which will improve their economic conditions, he said.
The distribution of sarees to 11.50 lac families across the state will be completed shortly. Every girl will be given a saree each year till she reaches 18 years of age. However, if the beneficiaries do not complete SSLC, additional facilities will not be provided, with the idea of encouraging the beneficiaries to pursue their studies, added the CM.

Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, women and child welfare minister C C Patil, energy minister Shobha Karandlaje also spoke on the occasion.
State higher education minister Dr V S Acharya, zilla panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, former MLA S Angara, MLA S Yogish Bhat, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP D V Sadanand Gowda, Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, MLC Bharathi Shetty, Mangalore mayor Rajani Dugganna, Forest Development Authority chairman S N Manmatha, Cash Development Board chairman Laxman Gowda Kuntikana, state Minority Board chairman Abubakker, taluk panchayat president Savitri Shivaram, town councilor Kamala Anand, APMC president Sitaram Gowda, Stree Shakti SHGs Federation president Pulasya Rai, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, health and family welfare department officer Dr Ramana Reddy, IGP Alok Mohan, Dr Harish Kumar, women and child welfare department director Shakunthala and others were present.

JD(S) Protest
Meanwhile, the local JD(S) activists staged a protest by carrying black flags, opposing the distribution of Bhagyalaxmi bonds and sarees to beneficiaries under Bhagyalaxmi Yojana by CM Yeddyurappa, near the venue here on Wednesday.
The protesters alleged that CM Yeddyurappa has been engaged in distribution of bonds and sarees to get political publicity, with eyes on the assembly elections. It’s a move to woo the voters in the constituency.
The city police arrested 25 JD(S) activists including JD(S) taluk president K S N Nidwannaya, JD(S) state chief secretary Ibrahim Golikatte, state youth JD(S) vice president Ashraf Kallega, block committee president Abdul Rehman Unique, local JD(S) leader Kishore Achary, Abdul Rehman Padil, taluk women wing president Padma Maniyan and Jayalaxmi and released them later.
