Kin Surrender Land, Yeddyurappa may Retain Chair

Hubli/New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's kin Friday surrendered land allegedly allotted to them in violation of law, an act that may ward off an immediate threat to his chair.

Yeddyurappa himself announced in Hubli in north Karnataka that his kin have given up the land while state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief K.S. Eshwarappa said in Delhi the issue of leadership change in Karnataka does not arise.

Jagadish Shettar, panchayati raj minister and a possible contender for the chief minister's post, also told reporters in Bangalore that "no one has raised or is discussing leadership change". He will attend the Delhi meeting.

The land surrender was preceded by the state cabinet Thursday approving a probe by a retired judge of the Supreme Court of all land deals, mainly in and around Bangalore, in the last 10 years. The name of the judge and terms of reference are to be announced shortly.

Eshwarappa reached Delhi Friday morning to attend a meeting of the party's central leaders late Friday to decide steps to ensure the Karnataka land scam does not derail the party's strident campaign against alleged corruption in the Congress-led central government.

Yeddyurappa and several other state leaders have also been summoned for the meeting. The chief minister is expected to reach Delhi late Friday.

Among the land surrendered is a 4,000 sq ft residential plot in Bangalore's upscale Raja Mahal Vilas Extension locality allotted to Yeddyurappa's son B.Y. Raghavendra, a BJP Lok Sabha member from Shimoga, the chief minister's home district.

Of all the land allotments, this one had caused major embarrassment to Yeddyurappa and the BJP as Raghavendra had filed a "false" affidavit saying he had no residential property in Bangalore while owning one.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) plot was allotted by the chief minister under his discretionary 'G' category quota. Under this quota only people who have achieved eminence in their field but do not own residential property can be allotted a plot.

Raghavendra and his brother B.Y. Vijeyendra also surrendered a two acre prime industrial plot at Jigani Industrial Estate on Bangalore's outskirts. The plot was allotted to them when Yeddyurappa was deputy chief minister in 2007.

Their sister Umadevi also gave up two acres of industrial land allotted to her near Harohalli, Bangalore outskirts. This was given to her after Yeddyurappa became chief minister in May 2008.

The plots have been given back to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), the government agency which acquires land for industrial and other purposes.

Yeddyurappa's sister and her son and daughter-in-law have also surrendered two residential plots given to them in the middle class area of Chandra Layout in Bangalore west.

The chief minister has however rubbished charges that he has denotified (freed from government control) huge tracts of land in Bangalore and Shimoga to benefit people who have invested money in the several business ventures of his two sons.

Not interested in knowing what will happen to Yeddy, Kumaraswamy, Siddu, Raja, Chavan, Kalmadi .......nth politician. Worried that they are all damaging the foundation stones of a great country. In the same way corrupt administration is the bane of Pakistan which is also the reason for the support army and militant groups enjoy there, time may not be far when naxalism or other forms of anarchy will find common man's support. (It already has support in several states including Karnataka).

Time may not be far when India will face acute food shortage which will lead in to massive civil unrest.
It is also disheartening to know the details of BJP's misdeeds as apart from core hindutwa elements lot of neutral people support BJP because they are fed up with the institutionalisation of corruption under successive Congress governments and antiques of opportunists like Mulayam, Mayavati, Lalu and our own Devegowda and sons.

    Dear Nagesh Nayak,

What's your argument? Mr CM has done a wrong and he must face the consequences. Let's not get into the urgly argument of others have done this and I am also justified in doing so! Is this all the ethics tought by RSS to its members all along. I am really worried the way you guys are arguing out to justify the wrong things done by the CM. Let's not deviate things and give shelter for this person to escape. Enough, the tax payer is looted all these days without proper infrastructure and better life. Let's look for someone who is better than this gentlemen.

By returning the lands by his Kith, if Yadiyoorappa is under the impression that he is free from all wrong doings, he is mistaken! If he and his party has any moral responsibility, he must resign to the post of CM first and then face a judicial enquiry. The argument that others have also done this type of loot doesn't escape him from the law. If it is true, as a responsible opposition leader what Yeddi was doing all these days. His silence gives an impression to the public that he was also a party to the deal! Mr Chief Minister, don't fool around the people. You and your ministers have done enough damage to the State, please quit your position and subject yourself to the law, if you still feel you are pure and perfect.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak. I dont think I was specific to BJP or Yediyurappa. The rut seems to be running through all parties in India. Hence your term "your A. Raja" needs to be corrected. Neither is A.Raja mine nor is BJP/Yediyurappa. Every one is a looter of our money

What a foolish barter/bargain system is in the pipeline in Delhi. After caught, “Bend like Beckham” or like weed bent with the wind…surrendering the allegedly grabbed land and in return reaping the reward of almost lost CM chair. This could be an another an opportunity to grab more land until he is caught again and again. Is BJP High command is notorious ? Congress or BJP, all seems to be same to acquire illegal wealth, land etc.,. Birds of same feather flock together only FLAGS R DIFERENT.
