BJP Defers Decision on Yeddyurappa's Future

With Inputs from IANS

New Delhi/Bangalore, Nov 20 (DHNS): The fate of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa hangs in balance as the BJP central leadership on Friday appeared unable to immediately resolve its compelling political dilemma.

The Bhartiya Janata Party early Saturday deferred its decision on whether to make the land scam-hit Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa quit or stay on his post.

It was decided after an over three-hour-long discussion between Yeddyurappa, other BJP leaders from Karnataka as well as top party functionaries. The meeting was held at party president Nitin Gadkari's residence in the wake of the opposition's campaign for Yeddyurappa's ouster over an alleged land scam.

"The consultation was held by the party president. He will be discussing what he has discussed with them with other senior leaders in Delhi. A decision will be taken by the central leaders of the party after further discussions. As and when we have some thing to tell you, we will tell you," Jaitley told reporters after the meeting.

As Yeddyurappa reached Delhi late Friday evening, the leadership was in no mood to lower its offensive against the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre over the mega 2G scam. But the credibility of that offensive was beginning to be weighed down the myriad land scams that have rocked the Yeddyurappa leadership in Karnataka.

Aware that the central leadership could consider easing him out, an embattled Yeddyurappa sought to undo the damage he had done to himself by asking his kith and kin to surrender lands allotted to them in questionable ways. This he did just before he boarded the flight to Delhi on Friday evening to save his troubled leadership.

Upon arrival in the national capital, Yeddyurappa appeared combative, in no mood to oblige the party leadership, let alone the Opposition. “Who are they (Opposition) to ask me to resign. They are worried because of rapid development in the state”, he asked.

Digging in his heels, Yeddyurappa gave a factional angle to the whole crisis that has engulfed his leadership.

A conspiracy

He is believed to have told the central leadership that the whole crisis was a conspiracy of his detractors in the state unit of the party. Apparently, he is armed with “evidence” to show that senior leader Ananth Kumar and his supporters were deeply involved in the messy affairs.

Apparently, the chief minister is making it known to the central leadership that he was no mood to oblige with his resignation. The defiance on his part is said to be his way of communicating to the leadership that if he was to be removed, the party might lose its first government in the South.

The central leadership itself is a divided house over the issue. While leaders like L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj want Yeddyurappa to step down, party chief Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh continue to stand by him. Also, there is no alternative identified so far should Yeddyurappa be sacked. There is a view that if the party’s campaign against UPA over the 2G issue did not yield the desired political outcome next week, it might provide a reprieve to Yeddyurappa by default.

Late Friday night, the core committee of the state BJP met in the national capital under Gadkari’s leadership where the chief minister and other prominent state leaders were present. But this meeting was not about considering any leadership change, said party sources. Others present were state BJP chief K S Eshwarappa and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar.

No surgery

In view of this, a section of the BJP’s top leadership believes “there is no surgery in the offing”, a clear indication that it would not want the party high command to act in haste to replace him.

“Replacement will not be easy since he is one of the few leaders in the state with a mass base”, sources said, adding that Yeddyurappa was “in a combative mood and not at all receptive to the idea of a change”.

Although the Nagpur outfit has not fully revealed its mind on the Yeddyurappa issue, RSS Joint General Secretary Suresh Soni has discussed with BJP chief Nitin Gadkari the land scam that Yeddyurappa and his sons are embroiled in.

With the Congress setting “an example” by forcing the resignations of Ashok Chavan in Maharashtra, sacking Suresh Kalmadi as Congress Parliamentary Party Secretary and getting rid of the DMK’s A Raja as Telecom Minister, the BJP has come under pressure to clean its own house.

Land surrender

During the day, Yeddyurappa’s family members and relatives surrendered four BDA sites and three Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) plots. Yeddyurappa’s son and Lok Sabha MP B Y Raghavendra on Thursday evening forwarded a letter to the BDA, surrendering a 50X80 feet plot allotted to him in upmarket RMV Extension.

Raghavendra was allotted the site under the chief minister’s discretionary quota after he produced a false declaration that he possessed no property elsewhere in the city. Raghavendra paid Rs 8 lakh to the BDA while the market value of the site is Rs 3 crore.

Yeddyurappa’s sister B S Premamma, who was allotted a 40X60 feet plot in HSR III Stage under the chief minister’s discretionary quota, also surrendered the site, BDA sources said. Two other relatives of Yeddyurappa, S C Ashok and M Deepa, also gave up their BDA sites, the sources added. The duo were allotted adjacent 40X60 BDA plots at Chandra Layout.

Raghavendra and his brother B Y Vijayendra surrendered a two-acre prime industrial plot at Jigani Industrial Estate to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board . The plot was allotted to Fluid Power Technologies, a firm owned by Raghavendra and Vijayendra when Yeddyurappa was deputy chief minister in 2007. Yeddyurappa’s daughter Umadevi also gave up two plots of industrial land allotted to her near Harohalli for her firm Candor Business Solutions. However, the issue of alleged illegal denotification of land remains untouched.

When I was a student I saw all colleges were closed for a day as one of cong minister and brothers was accused of involving in rape and there were peaceful protests in state from JD and BJP and finally he resigned. Congress lost on those elections in state. Today despite of all these record illegal activies and corruption (whatever you name it), we have not seen any effective protests from state Cong . Very very strange & even suspicious.JD(S) eventhough less in nos has effectively and boldly summarised all scandals and very effectively exposed them one by one.

One has to agree this fact and appreciate HDK. Karnataka will not remember Yeddy as highly corrupt Cm but he will be rembered as CM who kept silence to the record corruption and irregularities which happened in front of him and indirectly permitting it to happen . He sacrified his good name he had in past all just because of chair he wanted to keep intact,a chair with no power even to stop a juniormost minister from corrupt activities. What a foolish Yeddy?. You will be remembered forever.

BJP leaders are not able to any action against Mr.Yeddi for few reasons.
National BJP leaders are not having unity. The leaders of BJP want only the power not the development in Karnataka state. Some national leaders are got huge share from Mr. Yeddi and they are supporting him. Karnataka State BJP is not able to monitor, judge, and guide the CM, Ministers and MLA’s. They are busy either in filling their own filling pocket or in criminal activity. BJP is showing full support to Hinduism, but they are not doing as they said, and they themselves proving the difference groups in Hindus and insulting each other. Why Mr. Yeddi is so brainless? Mr. Yeddi is forgetting his designation, power, responsibilities, and his final goal. As a CM he should be brave to face any circumstances where he is failed and cried like a weak woman.
Mr. Yeddi does Not know how to utilize his power and as a result all ministers and MLA’s not respecting and honoring his word. Mr. Yeddi is very low profile responsibility person and we can see him distributing Sarees, giving green signal for buses and all stupid things. Mr. Yeddi promised and thousand time he d “today onwards I will give attention only to development and so on”. He is totally confused and mentally handicapped and as a result he does not know his goal or where he is going. He gave the land illegally to his family and now taking it back. Do we need such creepy, useless, brainless, fearful, shameless, and uncultured person as CM.

Sometimes I just wonder why people are fighting over here regarding the corruption in BJP , congress etc .. Who is responsible for this mess ?? That’s you ... yes you , you sit behind the computer and write all these crap blaming the parties for corruption .. Who brought these leaders to power ? . It’s you .. now how ? Here are the reasons .. Did you vote in any election ? Answer will be almost no .. Do you see when they publish election result its mere 30 or 40 % vote in election . On Election day .. Either we are busy with partying.. or marriage function and all sort of things .. But don’t have time to stand in queue to cast your vote... that’s also sometime when election is every 4to years, you dont have time for 1 hour to stand in queue to cast your vote . Then you say .. Yes I do vote .. good .. whom do you vote .. Oscar Fernandez .. Cause he is Christian .. oh no Nalin Kumar Kateel cause he is Hindu .. So on ... isn’t it ?? What they done all these years .. ineffective .. Sit on chair for 5 years .. and came again shamelessly to beg votes .. What you done ? you forgave them and vote again .. Now you sit in front of the computer and cringe and write that corruption is in BJP and Congress .. No .. Its in you .. You are so corrupt .. You vote a politician according to his cast , creed and favours done by him to you . And you don’t want to vote for a efficient candidate .. Voting age was reduced to 18 years .. That mean students from 1st year Graduates can vote (cont.)

There is no doubt that Minister Palemar owns nearly half of Mangalore. What kind of democracy we have? A time will come when every thing will be owned by the politicians and their kins and most citizens would be slaves. It could be a lawless nation along with Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia etc Somehow the rich would have emigrated to western countries. After all it would be the poor and defenceless citizens who would never get justice. Future looks very bleak.

Yeddy, Eshwarappa, Shettar, Shobha, Katta, Ashok - all of these have been caught red handed. Reddy brothers are still recovering from income tax raids.

Only honest people left in Karnataka Cabinet are VS Acharya, Suresh Kumar and Mumtaz Khan.

Like how Congress appointed noncontroversial Rosayya as CM of Andhra Pradesh, BJP high command should remove Yeddy and make someone with clean image and articulate person as Acharya as CM. Coastal districts have sent maximum number of BJP MLAs - these MLAs should now demand from high command that Coastal Districts is given CM in Acharya.

Compare to BJP high command Congress has a very strong high command which never bothers about the result eg: Chauhan, Kalmadi and Rajas resignation. In two and half years almost every month we are witnessing scandals in Karnataka, whether it may be Reddys, Naidus, Sriramulu, Ashok, Yeddys etc etc. But BJP high command is just mute spectator no action has been taken at all. This is why it is called the party with the differnce.

Who are the Opposition to ask me to reisign, is his question ? He is thinking by giving back the land he distributed to his family members he will be let out of the hook. No never. He has to resign if he has little shame. He is talking about ruling for 10 to 20 years. I hope he will be there as the CM next week. For get about 5, 10 or 20 years. Yeddy its time for you to go now. Enough is enough. You bought Karnataka to such a such a Mess no CM did. Hats off to you. If Central Ministers of BJP has any shame they should see that Yeddy is sacked. How they are stalling Parliment since more than a week drikning Blood of Raja, Chavan, and kalmadi ? now why they are saving their own CM who is caught in such a big Scam in Karnataka.
