Mangaluru, Dec 3: Locals in Gujjarakere protested on Friday December 3 and demanded the students to vacate the college hostel after the two groups of students engaged in a clash on the night of December 2.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar visited the spot and interacted with the locals.
Locals complained that the students of the hostel are creating nuisance every day, but last night it crossed the limits. Locals also alleged that the students scream, tease and create a lot of nuisance by driving rashly on the streets late in the night.
They also alleged that during Deepavali, some students threw crackers to their neighbours’ house from the hostel balcony. They even move semi-naked in the balcony, alleged a few.
On December 2, the students clashed with each other and later attacked cops who intervened. They also pelted stones, broke window panes of security room and damaged the security access system.
The locals staged protest against the hostel and the management of the college demanding the students to vacate the college hostel.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “Six students have been detained and two cases has been filed at Pandeshwar police station. Even locals are willing to file complaints.”
Principal of the college whose students engaged in the brawl said, “We have a ragging committee and frequently send reports to the concerned. A student named Adarsh has been suspended thrice. We still allowed him to pursue his studies. In a few days time, we will suspend him again.”
She also urged to give some time to resolve the issues and apologised to the locals for the incident.
VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell and MLA Vedavyas Kamath also visited the spot.
