Mangaluru, Dec 4: It seems there is no end to this long standing issue of water getting leaked onto the road from vehicles transporting fish from the fishing port at Bunder of the city.
Hundreds of trucks which carry fish from the fishing port use ice on them to preserve their freshness. This ice gets melted and mixes with the waste of fish. In addition, this water contains oil. Many two wheeler riders skid due to this and have lost lives also. Public are expressing disappointment at the apathy of the administration on this issue.
In the state of Kerala there are strict rules for trucks carrying fish. The trucks have to install tanks of 100 to 200 litre capacity on the rear end of the vehicle. The water that gets seeped from the truck or vehicle should fall into that tank. This has to be poured in deserted areas. However, In Karnataka this rule is not followed at all.
Most of the fish carrying vehicles approach the highway via Mangaladevi temple road. People living in these areas are having a difficult time. Police just fine the vehicles when they receive complaints. But a permanent solution is not yet taken by the district administration.
City police commissioner says that they have received many complaints in this connection and he has instructed the DCP of crimes and traffic to take suitable action.
