BJP Mulling Karnataka Options, Yeddyurappa Rules Out Quitting

BJP Mulling Karnataka Options, Yeddyurappa Rules Out Quitting

New Delhi/Hubli, Nov 20 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday said it was seized of the controversy in Karnataka and the central leadership was considering its options, but Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa asserted he will not quit over allegations of favouring kin with prime land.

"The party called him (Yeddyurappa), heard him and is seized of the matter," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said here.

He said that kin of the chief minister has already surrendered the alloted land.

"The chief minister (has) put forth his views. The national leadership is looking into it," Prasad said answering queries on Yeddyurappa's continuation.

Talking to reporters in Hubli after his arrival from Delhi, where he met the party's central leadership, Yeddyurappa said he will not quit.

He also told chief ministerial aspirants of his party and those belonging to other parties to wait for two-and-half years more, when elections to the state assembly are due, to realise their aspirations.

"There is nothing wrong in aspiring to be chief minister. But the party came to power under my leadership and it will fight the next elections also under my leadership," Yeddyurappa said.

"If after that party leadership decides that someone else should be chief minister, I have no objection," he said.

"I will go back to Delhi Monday for further talks with party leaders and our parliament members," said Yeddyurappa, who Friday night attended a marathon meeting of BJP central leaders that ended well past midnight in the national capital.

The meeting to decide on the fate of Yeddyurappa started around 10.30 p.m. Friday and ended after over three hours.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley told reporters after the meeting that further talks would be held with central party leaders to arrive at a decision.

"The consultation was held by the party president. He will be discussing what he has discussed with them with other senior leaders in Delhi. A decision will be taken by the central leaders of the party after further discussions. As and when we have something to tell you, we will tell you," he said.

BJP sources in New Delhi said the chief minister is expected to meet senior party leader L.K. Advani as part of efforts to resolve the present "difficulties" caused by allegations of nepotism levelled against him by the opposition.

Party sources said a decision on Yeddyruppa is expected in the next few days but indicated the beleaguered leader may not be replaced.

The BJP's core group had met Thursday to discuss the developments in the wake of the opposition offensive seeking the chief minister's ouster for land scam.

The state government Thursday decided to order a probe by a retired Supreme Court judge into all land deals in and around Bangalore in the past ten years.

Ahead of his Delhi visit Friday, Yeddyurappa made his two sons, daughter, sister and her son and daughter-in-law to surrender the residential and commercial lands that were allotted to them on priority basis.

According to party sources, though the allegations against the chief minister had created "difficulties" for the party, he may not be replaced.

The sources said that Yeddyruppa continued to be the most popular leader of the party in the state and there was sympathy for him among a section of people who feel he was being targeted by his opponents.

"Removing him at this stage looks a little adventurous," a party leader told IANS.

He said that a formula is likely to be worked out where Yeddyurappa may be asked to be "more open and transparent in his financial dealings" and take steps to hold proper consultations so that the state unit functions as a team.

According to the party leader, Yeddyurappa is a tall leader of the Lingayat community and choosing an alternative to him is not easy.

"The options for the party for a change of leadership are not easy. The party has to look at the future repercussions of a change," he said.

Karnataka Govt with a spectrum of scandals reminds me of the popular saying ‘Indian Democracy is based upon Corruption’. I wish the media, the public, Lokayukta, RTI and any other mediums to expose Reddy-Yeddy Illegal Mining-Gate, Shoba-Yeddy Land Scam-Gate, Raghu-Vijay-Sohan Multi-Crore SW Mining-Gate and Yeddy-…
Are we electing these dirty politicians to loot our national minerals as well as the poor men’s share of wealth in multi-crore rupees scandals & illegal mining? The BPLs and Farmers are either sleeping without a square meal of food or committing suicide? What a shame on these dirty faceless politicians and bureaucrats of our State. They are still busy with cheap political gimmick such as distributing cheap & defective saris, visiting several temples to save their chairs etc. There should be stronger transparency, more NGOs & watchdogs, involvement of social organisations, RTIs etc.

Every citizen must understand what are the Motto of BJP and RSS. It is simple and every one can understand if we think in right way. They need only power and money. It is said by Mr. Yeddi, “I am who brought BJP to power and all election after that won because of me”. BJP and RSS want the power and loot the country.

Let us think this way when we sick, we go to Doctor and he will prescribe some medication, and ask us to see him if it is worsen. If our sickness is increased or not subside, he will change the medication to get away from that sickness. Doctor can not say that this is best medication and you must use only this and so on. If he says, then the patient will die.

The same way Mr. Yeddi is saying I am the only person in BJP to be CM and no one can take my place. It is unfortunate to every citizen in Karnataka State have such horrible person, poor mentality, uncultured, cheating, idiot and dishonest person as CM.

We must accept our failure and must learn from that, and that should be our principal of life. But this CM and his team no shame and no culture.

Hope people will understand and realize BJP and RSS mentality. We need honest people to rule us who really think of India and every citizen. The people who talk too much of religion [Except who dedicated their life for religious] specially the political leaders are very evil and back stabbing. Please take care such devils and kick them out for ever.

Mr abusaad, Mangalore / Dammam / SA first and foremost you dont have any rights to comment on any caste or religion. You comment out of sense we can clearly say that you are being brainwashed by congress. Do you know that in gujarat recent elections 30 to 40 % minority people have voted for BJP and more than 100 people from minority community have won from BJP. So what do you say for this? Your congress is almost washed out from the state. Jai ho BJP.

    Heights of shamelessness..
some1 really needs to take a stand and ask the CM to quit.
If the rules are not set now or if we let the CM rule now , there are gonna be many more politicians who will do the same , 1st steal the land , then return it and then still shamelessly rule .
i think the probe is a must , im sure there are many other scams which will come to limelight if a probe takes place.

Mr. CM, you had ample opportunities earlier to exit with
some peace of mind and limited
    dignity, but you have spoiled
all the chances like the Eagle
which could't stop gulping on the
    dead animal. The Eagle's claws
were entangled with the bones of
the dead animal, and the Eagle
had to go down with the animal in
    Niagra falls.

During the past few months of your
tenure as the CM of Karnataka,
that State came to the national
scene with bad news of minority
persecution (No 1 in the nation),
    ravaging natural clamities, and
    now you have caused irreparable
    damage to your own party.

God has appointed you with a
special mission to be CM of Karnataka to reveal certain vital
truths to the whole nation otherwise you
    could have resigned far earlier.

You could have very well used
your authority to stop the attacks
of the street goons at the
    minority, especially at the
    Christian Churches. To bluff the
public, at times, you will rush
to see the Catholic Bishop with
fresh flowers either to get his
    blessings or play simple political
    diplomacy, but God knew your
    real intentions.

Sir, you have visited more religious places than any other
    former Chief Ministers, still you
    got into more serious troubles.

    Most probably, the State of
Karnataka never had such a bad
luck such as this. How many
    horse trading, leg pulling etc,
but the game plans did't work, only
the truth will prevail at last.

I was really amazed and ashamed to watch the news in one of the prime channels that the Sarees distrubuted by Yeddy under Bhagyalakshi Scheme recently were of cheap quality & diffective pieces.
Most of the women either threw them in garbage or kept it for mophing the floor. What a eyewash by Yeddy to get women's sympathy.
Is this Bhagyalakshmi for common people or Dhanalakshmi for Yeddy & Co?. Its really sad & shameful act.
Even Some of the women in Gulburga have collected & sent these inferior quality sarees to district collectors office as protest for cheating them.
As per CM's office they have purchased each peice for a ooping price of Rs.1400/- where as per beneficiaries it won't be more than Rs.100/- worth. I seriouly smell a "Saree scam" here involving crores rupees swindle by Yeddy & Co.
Moreover there is a land scam emerging from Shikaripur taluk of Shimoga dist that Yeddy's family have aquired acres of illegal benami land in the name of trusts and societies after he became minister. The volume is expected be several crores.
Is Yeddy a CM or land Mafia?
What is going on in Karnataka?
Every day one or the other scam. Is this the reward for voting bjp last time?

The difference between Chavan and Yeddy is that Chavan's relatives got the flats meant for Kargil Jawans. Yeddy used discretionary powers bestowed on CM for selfish purpose. (He is therefore right technically and wrong morally).
By the way, Naveen Shetty, Narendra Modi's Gujarath is the best governed state today followed closely by Bihar's Nitish both are NDA governments.

I really appreciate the sincerity of Yedyurappa. He makes mistakes but admits them. That is a great political virtue. Besides, he has asked his kit and kin to surrender thier portion of land appropriated not appropriately. We need to really appreciate the sense of humour of Yeddy, as he certainly continue as Chief Minister and end his full term. Who knows, he may be elected again. Kumarasswamy is certainly not a saint. He has done enough money when he ruled. Let Yeduyrappa have his share too. Doddanna - Damaskatte
