Mangaluru, Dec 5: Citizens can now win Rs 500 by clicking photographs of miscreants who dump garbage on roadsides and inside parks, and sending them to Kuppepadavu gram panchayat (GP) authorities. 

Kuppepadavu in the district of Dakshina Kannada has come up with a unique idea to teach a lesson to people who throw garbage wherever they want. The gram panchayat has come up with the offer of giving a cash prize of Rs 500 to anyone who gives information or sends a photo or video of a person throwing garbage in a public place.

This idea has become such a hit that throwing of garbage on roadsides is completely stopped. This decision was taken in the meeting that was held on October 28. While the person giving information wins Rs 500, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be slapped on the offender.

Speaking on the success of the idea, PDO Savita of Kuppepadavu gram panchayat said, “We had decided about this offer to control the menace of people throwing garbage everywhere. It is a huge success. The incident of garbage throwing has reduced considerably.”
