Bengaluru, Dec 6: Karnataka has been ranked third in the country as far as the number of attacks on Christians and their places of worship in the year 2021 are concerned. The state has been placed at the top with regard to these attacks among south Indian states. As many as 32 attacks happened against this community in the state, as per a fact finding report prepared by the United Christian Forum (UCF), Association for Protection of Civil Rights, and United Against Hate.
The report was released at a programme held on Sunday by Archbishop Peter Machado.
Out of 305 incidents of attacks, 66 happened in Uttar Pradesh, 47 in Chhattisgarh and 32 in Karnataka. Tamil Nadu accounted for 12 incidents, Andhra Pradesh 5 and two in Telangana. The report may have taken into account only a small portion of the actual number of attacks as only the ones which were received by UCF helpline were recorded. Most of the cases were fuelled by the false allegations of forcible religious conversions, the report said.
The figures provided in the report contain incident which happened from January 2021 to September, in a matter of 273 days.
