Bengaluru, Dec 8: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D K Shivakumar has alleged that the BJP governments in the State and Delhi were needlessly subjecting the people to fear psychosis over the omicron Covid variant without really disclosing the full facts.
Speaking to reporters near his residence on Wednesday, Shivakumar said safety of the people and protecting their livelihood was certainly necessary and all precautions must be taken. But at the same time, there must be valid and rational restrictions in the country and such obstacles to normal life cannot be selectively enforced.
The IT sector, hotels, cinemas, malls and other establishments were by and large functioning in air-conditioned and closed environments and were following necessary Covid safety protocols, he said and argued that it was unreasonable and unjustified to subject only these sectors to stringent restrictions and destroy their business.
The restrictions were destroying the economy and indirectly affecting livelihood, he said and demanded that the government must follow reasonable safety precautions while framing the guidelines only in places faced with severe infections rather than uniformly subjecting all sectors indiscriminately.
The KPCC Chief said the State Government has not provided any compensation to those who lost their lives for Covid or those who suffered huge losses. The farmers are facing hardships and government must provide compensation for the victims and business sectors, he said.
