Doha: TKQ successfully conducts Ladies Throw ball, Mixed Volleyball Open Championship

Doha, Dec 11: Tulukoota Qatar (TKQ), a renowned frontline Interfaith, Socio cultural community group under the aegis of ICC affiliated to Indian Embassy, for the first time in the history of Qatar has successfully conducted ‘Ladies Throwball and Mixed Volley ball’ tournament with players from multiple nationalities and different states of India, on December 2 and 3 at Cambridge School ground Abuhamour-Doha.

Tournaments began on December 2 from 7.30 pm with league matches conducted simultaneously both Throwball and Volleyball on adjacent courts and Semi-final and Finals were concluded on December 3 followed by a Gala closing ceremony and grand prize distribution.

This Championship Trophy saw five ladies teams in Throwball event - TKQ-1, Maratha Warriors, Qatar Tamizhar Sangam, TKQ-2, Star Sports Throwball Rockers. After the enthralling and exciting league matches TKQ-1 and TKQ-2 qualified for Finals. TKQ-1 team won the Champion Trophy in the Ladies Throwball Event and TKQ-2 team won Runner-up Trophy.

TKQ Throwball champions - TKQ-1 members were Vijaya Shetty-captain, Veena-team manager, Indira Rai Kunder, Pravina shetty, Swetha Shetty, Akhila Rao, Sunitha Tellis, Anthia Merlyn Fernandes, Chandrakala shetty, Shamya Shetty, Meenakshi, Rashmi. In the Throwball category, Best Safe hands title won by Kavitha from QTS team, Best smasher title won by Mural from TKQ 2 team and Star of the tournament Title was bagged by Indira Ravi Kunder from TKQ1 team.

Meanwhile, Eight mixed volleyball teams with national and international players - TKQ-1, TKQ-2, GVB, GVB2.0, Topnotch, VoliQ, Team Tamilnadu and Volleybros participated in the tournament. After the exciting league matches TKQ-2, VoliQ, Tamilnadu and Topnotch emerged as semi-finalists from the 2 pools A and B. The finalists were Team Tamilnadu and Team Top Notch, after a nail biting three set match team Tamilnadu lifted the Champion trophy and Team VoliQ were the runners-up. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the matches.

TKQ Volleyball Champions -Team Tamilnadu members- Renaldo Micheal-team manager, Naveen Jacob- captain, Moihideen Abbas, Sarjan Selvam, Micheal Dijon, Hakeem, Safras, Dayang, Betsy Rose, Sarah, Nhadie and Kavitha. In the Mixed Volleyball category star of the tournament title was won by Hakeem from team Taminadu and Emma from team Top Notch, while Best Setter title won by Ajith Sarjan from team Tamilnadu and Best Smasher title by Muhammed from team VoliQ .

A short lively stage program was held, Akshaya Deepak Shetty compered the stage show where in Bhoomika Anchan performed a mesmerizing fusion dance and Pilli dancers entertained the crowd to the fullest.

Stage programme was compered by cultural secretary Chaitali Suhas, wherein TKQ first lady President Chaitali Uday Shetty escorted the chief guest of the evening Reem Al-Khater to the stage and vice president Sandesh Anand, general secretary Naveen Shetty Iruvail and sports secretary Chandrashekar Shetty escorted the guests of honour Dr M Ravi Shetty MD, ATS, Muhamed Nizar – MD, Qatar Multitech, Chidanand Naik -GM M Pallonji Qatar and Asmath Ali – chairman, GTD to the stage. President Chaitali Shetty addressed the gathering with a welcome note. Talking on the occasion founder member of TKQ Dr M Ravi Shetty applauded the TKQ committee for conducting such a mega sports event after a long pandemic period and also Muhamed Nizar and Ashmath ali addressed the gathering. Chief guest Reem Al-Khater spoke on the occasion and appreciated team TKQ for conducting such an organized and beautiful sports event. The sub edition of annual souvenir ‘Nirel’ – edited by Jt general secretary Sagar Kotian, was released on the occasion together by the dignitaries and the committee members.

A grand prize distribution ceremony was compered by Kiran Anand Advisory TKQ and general secretary Naveen Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.

ICC advisory board members Deepak Shetty, SKMWA president Abdul Majeed, Billawas president Raghunath Anchan and Indian Sports Centre committee member Anil Boloor were present on the occasion.

ATS Group Qatar was the event sponsor, Platinum sponsor were M Pallonji Qatar, Qatar Multitech, Golden Trading, Inter tech and Fabricast. Golden sponsor are J& J Infra, Qatar Meta Coats and Telephony, Silver Sponsors were Canara Jewellers, Akshaya Jewellers and Century Trans.

After a lot of fun, entertainment and photo session, the audience went home with lots of sweet memories.
