Mangalore: Art, Cultural, and Film Fests at World Konkani Convention

Mangalore, Nov 26: The art workshop organized as part of the Art Fest at the World Konkani Convention, was inaugurated by veteran artist, Pundalik Shenoy, on Friday November 26 at Kalaangan, Shaktinagar here. At the same venue, art exhibition was inaugurated by well-known artist, Peter Lewis, at 10 am.

























 


Fr John Fernandez delivered his address on the theme, ‘Konkani culture’. He reminded the people that art has no boundaries and that it transcends even language barriers. He noted that the people of Dakshina Kannada switch from one language to another with appreciable ease. “Thus, Konkani has got deep-rooted in various parts of the world. Culture blossoms out of nature and human labour or effort. Language and art bloom and flourish when human reacts to nature” he reasoned.

As many as 35 artists from various parts of the country like Kerala, Goa, Karwar, and Chennai, in addition to Mangalore, are participating in this art camp. Their paintings will be on display for public viewing from 4. 30 pm on Saturday November 27 onwards, and they will continue to be exhibited throughout the period of this convention.  Edward Nazareth and artist, Purushottam Adve, were among those who were present.

Film fest (Pinturam Mell) was also inaugurated on Friday November 26 at 10 am. 30 Konkani films will be screened here everyday at 10 am and at 2.30 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays, also at 9 pm.
