Mangaluru, Dec 16: A programme, 'Parivarthana Sabhe', designed to delete the names of rowdy-sheeters from the history sheets, after a thorough check of their behaviour and give them a second chance, was held on Thursday December 16.
As many as 1,256 names were revoked from the rowdy sheeters list under Mangaluru police commissionerate limits.
Speaking at the programme at TV Raman Pai hall, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, said, “There are 3,263 names in the rowdy-sheeters’ list under Mangaluru city police commissionerate among which 663 cases of rowdies are closed, elderly rowdies are 80 and those who stayed away from crime activities are 513 which comes to a total of 1,256 rowdies. These names have been revoked from rowdy sheeters’ list. I have seen a case where a man was listed rowdy sheeter in 1994-95, but his family had to face the consequences. It is very difficult for them to be live in the society with the tag of a rowdy sheeter, despite not involving in crime activities from many years.
“We have revoked the names of 1,256 persons from the list so that they can live a peaceful and responsible life. The process of removing names was done after a lot of meetings. We urge you all to be a responsible citizens and work like police in civil dress,” he said.
Businessman A J Shetty said, “Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar has organized a wonderful programme for the rowdies’ reformation which will help them to come back into the mainstream of the society and be responsible citizens.”
Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital said, “If you take good decisions, it will lead you to a happy and peaceful life. But wrong decisions will ruin your life. Taking good decisions is in our hand. We should keep our anger aside. Revenge and violence is not a solution for everything but developing friendship and being kind can make the society peaceful.”
Habeeb Rehman, chairman and medical director, Unity Hospital said, “I will address people here as reformed citizens. The transformation should come within the heart to live a peaceful life in the society.”
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar welcomed the gathering, DCP crime and traffic Dinesh Kumar proposed the vote of thanks and Namratha compered the event.
