Mangalore: Exhibition on Life of Blessed Joseph Vaz Inaugurated at Mudipu

Mangalore, Nov 28: The tri-centenary death anniversary of Blessed Joseph Vaz, a zealous Goan Christian missionary, who served the community in south Canara, was observed at his pilgrimage centre in Mudipu, near here, on Sunday November 28.

Walter D’Souza Nandalike, managing director and editor-in-chief, Daijiworld.com inaugurated the Blessed Joseph Vaz’s tri-centenary death anniversary exhibition themed ‘Blessed indeed the life lived on proclaiming the Gospel.’ 

In his inaugural address he said, "There is a need for knowing more about Blessed Joseph Vaz, as people know about the holy Mudipu shrine, but very few know the miracles done by Juze Vaz. This is the right step to create awareness on his life, and a fitting tribute to him on the occassion of his 300th death anniversary."

Authentic pictures dating back a few centuries, procured from different monasteries both in Sri Lanka and Goa, are displayed at the exhibition. 

Fr Vinod Lobo, assistant parish priest of Mudipu elaborated on the exhibits that were painstakingly restored and displayed at the exhibition.

Fr Francis, editor, ‘Raknno’ Konkani weekly, was also present on the occasion.

Fr Andrew D’Souza, director, Blessed Joseph Vaz Pilgrimage Centre, and parish priest of Mudipu, welcomed the gathering.  Vinod Gangolli compered the programme. 

Earlier in the day, the procession of head load offerings was held from Mudipu parish to the pilgrimage centre located on a nearby hillock.

Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest, Our Lady of Mercy, Panir, and Fr Stany Monteiro conducted the prayer service on the occasion.

Fr Serrao, spoke on the Gospel message, “Those who give generously, will be dear to God.” 

Parishioners of Mangalore south deanery and neighbouring parishes participated in the programme.

Fr Dolphy Serrao, vice-provincial of Capuchin province, accepted the head load offerings and blessed and concelebrated the Holy Mass.
