Ramanagara, Dec 21: Sri Basavalinga Swamiji of Chilume Math in Magadi taluk, Ramanagara district, ended his life on Monday December 20 by hanging himself.
The Swamiji was a native of Doddaballapur taluk. On Monday morning, he had prepared to offer Dhanurmasa and Linga Puja but later was found to have hanged himself near a window at the Math premises. Locals said that his death has occurred under suspicious circumstances even though on the face of it appears to be a case of suicide.
Ramanagara district superintendent of police, Girish S, along with Kuddur police inspector, visited the spot and inspected the spot besides collecting information from the Math staff.
The Swamiji was 62. Reasons for his sudden decision to end his life are yet to be ascertained. The incident came to light at 7.30 am when the Math volunteers reached the Math and saw from the window that the Swamiji had committed suicide. The police were informed forthwith.
Kuddur police have started investigation by treating it as a case of suspicious unnatural death. The Swamiji did not leave behind any death note. However, the police hope to get break through from a diary in which he recorded all his dealings and transactions. It is said that the Swamiji had performed morning Puja at 5 am.
Though the Swamiji has not left any death note, he has written in his diary about his financial transactions.
As per the statement of the staff, the incident took place after the seer performed puja early around 5 am. He had some health issues and appeared to be worried during the last some days. The police are waiting for the post-mortem report from Rajarajeshwari Hospital Bengaluru where the mortal remains were sent.
