Karkala, November 30: The renovated Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar, was inaugurated on Monday November 29.

Bishop of Mangalore diocese, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, was welcomed by the parishioners of the church in a traditional manner. The Bishop inaugurated the renovated church.

The inauguration was followed by blessing of the newly built grotto by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza. He concelebrated the Holy Mass in the company of more than 30 guest priests. The homily was preached by parish priest of Cascia church, Fr Vincent Victor Menezes. The joyful liturgy was conducted by Fr Boniface Pinto, director of Mangala Jyothi. At the end of the Mass, the Perpetual Adoration of Blessed Sacrament was blessed by the Bishop.

The felicitation programme began at 11.45 am. Dr Baptist Menezes, episcopal vicar of Udupi district, was the chief guest, while Fr John A Barboza, vicar forane of Karkala deanery, along with H Gopal Bhandary, Karkala MLA, participated as guests of honour.

The children of the parish welcomed everyone with a beautiful dance. The chief guests, in their addresses, appreciated and commended the hard work rendered by Fr Alwyn D’Cunha, parish priest and the parishioners of the church, towards renovating the church. More than 2000 people were present at the function. A sumptuous meal was served to all at the end of the programme.
