Mangaluru, Dec 24: Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) authorities have been undertaking the work of laying underground natural gas pipelines across the city to supply gas to residences. However, there have been several complaints claiming that when executing works, the workers have damaged the drinking water pipeline, affecting water supply to many areas.
In view of these complaints, a meeting chaired by city mayor, Premananda Shetty, was held in the committee hall of the corporation with the participation of the top officials of GAIL and contractors on Thursday December 23.
GAIL was advised to provide details of works undertaken by them to the corporation and inform the corporation's department concerned beforehand about where the works would be taken up. The mayor asked the engineers concerned to provide this information relating to GAIL works. He also asked the concerned to restore the roads after digging the road for work. He also asked the officials to ensure that the people in general do not face any problems when the works are conducted. He advised all the entities connected with the execution of the said works to keep this in mind.
Deputy mayor Sumangala Rao, corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar, MCC chief whip Sudheer Shetty, city corporators Bhaskar, Shashidhar Hegde, Diwakar, Naveen D;Souza, Jayanandan Anchan, standing committee chairpersons, Lokesh Bollaje, Leelavati Prakash and Shobha Rajesh were present.
