Udupi, Dec 28: "Five staff and a sub-inspector has been shifted from the Kota police station till the inquiry is completed. Until further orders, the sub-inspector and the five staff cannot attend the Kota police station," informed Udupi superintendent of police (SP) N Vishnuvardhan said on Tuesday December 28.
Speaking about the allegations of police brutality at a mehendi function in Kota, the SP said "It is expected that the probe will be completed by Wednesday evening. A probe under Udupi DySP has been initiated.
“Loudspeakers were used even after 10 pm. The locals have filed a complaint to the police station. Earlier, the SHO had visited the spot and requested to reduce the volume. After police received a complaint on 112, the sub inspector had visited the spot.
“If the incident is true, we will take action. We will take action against those who have committed the mistake.
“Further action will be taken after submitting a report to the IG,” he said.
On the measures taken by the police department for New Year celebration in the district, he said, “As per the government order, essential measures have been taken in the district. As many as 25 check posts, 46 picketing points, additional 800 staff, more than 70 staff, 5 DAR, one quick responding team, and three responding teams have been deployed to maintain law and order in the district.”
