Udupi: Probe under DySP initiated into alleged Kota police brutality incident - SP

Udupi, Dec 28: "Five staff and a sub-inspector has been shifted from the Kota police station till the inquiry is completed. Until further orders, the sub-inspector and the five staff cannot attend the Kota police station," informed Udupi superintendent of police (SP) N Vishnuvardhan said on Tuesday December 28.

Speaking about the allegations of police brutality at a mehendi function in Kota, the SP said "It is expected that the probe will be completed by Wednesday evening. A probe under Udupi DySP has been initiated.

“Loudspeakers were used even after 10 pm. The locals have filed a complaint to the police station. Earlier, the SHO had visited the spot and requested to reduce the volume. After police received a complaint on 112, the sub inspector had visited the spot.

“If the incident is true, we will take action. We will take action against those who have committed the mistake.

“Further action will be taken after submitting a report to the IG,” he said.

On the measures taken by the police department for New Year celebration in the district, he said, “As per the government order, essential measures have been taken in the district. As many as 25 check posts, 46 picketing points, additional 800 staff, more than 70 staff, 5 DAR, one quick responding team, and three responding teams have been deployed to maintain law and order in the district.”

    Q. Spoil a happy event, causing embarrassment to offenders./// A. People who can feel embarrassed or have a good conscience, will never hold a noisy night event after 10pm to distrub their neighbours. /// Do people plan their events after considering whether their neighbour has an important exam to answer the next day and could ruin his/her life due to lack of sleep or disturbance to study/// or that an employee could mess up his/her job the next day due to lack of sleep and lose their job or cause an accident?/// a tired Surgeon in Pune who just returned from a whole day of gruelling surgeries could not sleep because some people were making a lot of noise on loudspeakers while shooting a film at FTII/// or that due to lack of sleep a person wakes up late and misses an important appointment for a new job??// who will pay for this???///Imagine you are travelling by plane to XYZ and your pilot could not sleep because somebody in his neighbourhood held a “1 night only” DJ mehendi event .As a result of no sleep the pilot makes an error and crashes, killing people/// these are all real life incidents!!///nobody wants to play spoilsport by complaining to the appropriate authority, they do it to protect their right to rest and sleep when the offenders have no manners or sensibility/// If law of the jungle prevailed they would have taken out their gun and....

    Q. Only the question of 1 night, 1 time celebration?///A. We are no more a hunter-gather or agrarian society, where everyone in the village does only one job, e.g.: farming; where everybody planned their work, rest & enjoyment time together /// even then, before 1990’s, most of the people respected their sleeping neighbours who had to go to work, school etc. the next day/// people were more civilised///what is this fascination with bursting crackers and abusing loudspeakers only at night???// modern loudspeakers producing over 110 dB in open-air ,can be heard upto 2-3 kms away during night-time irrespective of city or village///disturbing people all around is nothing but selfishness; this is all about competition each one wants to be bigger and louder than the next///in a village of 300 voters there will be at least 600 persons: each one will want to celebrate their birthday, engagement, mehendi, wedding, anniversary, house warming, new job, new born, cricket/kabaddi/volleyball match etc. - all of these happen only on 1 day of the year for each of these persons/groups, we have only 360 days in a year and these events are compressed within 180 days(between the monsoon seasons)///birthdays come every year///where does this only 1 night in a year argument stop and with whom, with me? with somebody else? with nobody?/// if only 2 persons hold an all night noise event per week and 8 such events are held in a month then the entire neighbourhood loses 16 days of efficient work/productivity every month due to lack of proper sleep/// it takes about 2 days to regain normal life if night sleep is disturbed ///as an alternative to using loudspeakers in open air, people can hire a sound proof hall or use wireless headphones and blast the noise as loud as they want and enjoy ,that is their choice!

    Neighbours should also understand, a person he or she is getting married. It's a one time celebration, families & friends r invited. It's a matter of 1 night, but calling police & spoiling a happy occasion, causing embarrassment to the family was really not necessary. This is my individual opinion. Also cops should have handled this matter in a professional way.

    I think that the rules of Covid19 has not followed by the Mehndi party. That's the first mistake. Secondly when Police people came they should have closed the event without arguments. But hitting with Lathi is wrong. For lathicharge also order required.,I believe.

    I welcome an unbiased probe to find the truth and nothing but the truth. The result of the investigation should be made public.///It is obvious, to me, that the people accused of abusing loudspeakers after 10pm have “influence power”.///Policemen almost never carry lathis. So there must have been some overwhelming reason why the policemen had to take their lathis and use them./// People should understand that hard-working people get only 8 hours to sleep while 16 hours of the day is allowed for people to make noise.///Yet, many people are selfish, uncaring and uncivilised./// If the policemen were really only performing their duty(which is a major surprise to me) then the violators of the law should be punished under Noise Pollution Rules 2000 : it is a cognizable offence with jail term may extend to 5 years , with fine upto 1 lakh or both /// The sound system people should also be co-accused because they are the ones who encourage and run the show.///If the SHO and SI really intended to stop violation of the law, I applaud them and I hope the SP stands by them and shields them from bad politicians and mobs./// It is totally true that loudspeakers are abused and firecrackers are burst after 10pm, right into the wee hours of the morning as a regular feature. The police rarely implement the law.///Most people don’t complain because either they themselves are law-breakers or because they are afraid of repercussions from both the law-breakers and the police and because “rule of law” is a joke in India./// Sadly due to society itself being totally corrupt, the job of a policeman is a difficult one,” he is damned if he does his job and damned if he doesn’t.” Hence they prefer to do nothing.

    "do nothing" is GREAT option in Public life.....Late Oscar , let his soul Rest In Peace....did this in his whole political career ( 1980-2021) with great success... he was 'Ajatha shatru / No enemies' in his political life....and remained as Member of Parliament for 40 + LONG years..... he should be 'role model' to this 'Puthoshi' PSI ....     I was also surprised when I read the first news item. Tools of communication, viz., mobile phone call could have settled the issue. Here, the police visited in person during pandemic with a request to reduce volume. I am sure, when they were greeted with lubricated Mehendi guests who would not relent then police probably indulged in violence. But there too, investigation must point out if there was a provocation or police went ready with one sided escalation.

    I agree. Canada had a fine of $750K for lock down violators last year. In India DJs should fined Rs,1 lakh for sound pollution.
