Shivamogga, Dec 29: A person vandalized the idol of Goddess Saraswati in an inebriated state. This incident occurred recently at the government lower primary school under the limits of Haroholige gram panchayat in the taluk of Thirthahalli.
Rumours went around that some miscreants have demolished the idol. However, after a week a person by the name Govinda approached the head teacher of the school and asked some water to drink. It is said that the head teacher did not give him water and he took the revenge by demolishing the idol. Locals say that the accused has the habit of creating ruckus every now and then in an inebriated state.
Sasithota Manjunath, president of SDMC has filed a complaint in Thirthahalli police station on accused Govinda. In his complaint, Manjunath accused Govinda of vandalizing the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Goddess Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda and Gautama Buddha. In addition, he also broke the pipeline in the farmland that is behind the school.
Thirthahalli police are investigating further.
