Bengaluru, Dec 30: Media and politicians need one another and both cannot survive otherwise, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Speaking after launching the new tabloid English daily, News Trail, he said the media faces many challenges especially with the popularity of the social media which is trail blazing the electronic media and therefore the media needs to develop new strategies to successfully face the challenges by taking risks.
However, the Chief Minister said the print media still enjoys higher credibility because people would read the newspapers to confirm what they have read in the social media or seen in the electronic media, particularly to understand the nuances and significance of any developments.
The media needs to be truthful, factual and interesting so as to gain new readership and retain existing readers, which is a herculean task. Newspapers need to present news and articles in such a way as to create and cultivate new readers rather than chase existing readers, he said.
Former Chief Minister and Congress Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, Dr Sudarshan Ballal and others attended the function. Nina Gopal, Editor, welcomed.
