Udupi: Temple Town Gears up for Weeklong Utsav

Udupi, Dec 6: The preparations are underway and the city is all set for week-long Utsav. 

The artistes, holy men, dignitaries from across the nation will arrive here on Sunday December 12 to attend the 80th birthday celebrations of Pejavar Swami Vishweshateertha.

In all 108 mahayaga will be held around the Ratha Beedi as part of the celebraions here on Friday December 10.

In the backdrop of golden jubilee celebrations of town council, month-long exhibition that was embarked on after the lapse of 7 years will be inaugurated on the occasion.

A large number of religious leaders and holy men from across the country will arrive to add colour to the birthday celebrations.

BJP leaders Lalkrishna Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka CM B S Yeddyurappa, and other dignitaries too will arrive.

The hoardings welcoming the dignitaries are fastened in prominent spots across the city. The preparations to perform 108 Mahayaga in the Ratha Beedhi is already complete. The preparations are underway to set up exhibition of Udupi Utsav at Kunjibettu maidan, here.

Meanwhile, Indian President Pratibha Patil will attend the graduation day at Manipal University, here on Wednesday December 8 evening and will also inaugurate the new campus of TAPMI at Badagubettu, here on Thursday December 9 morning.

    We should also organise a 'Tribal Fair' that is going to be a great source of attraction among the urban visitors where they get the opportunity to watch this ethnic world adorn with the magic of their art, crafts and culture. A Tribal Museum inside the venue will have quite far-reaching effect on the young student visitors. Such museum will offer adequate lore on the art, crafts, housing and life-styles of the various tribal groups.
