Mangalore, Dec 6: It was a memorable evening for the members and honorary members of PYC, an ICYM-affiliated youth association of Our Lady of Pomei Church, Gurpur-Kaikamba, as they came together to enjoy a musical fiesta at the PYC Nite.

There were invigorating songs, dance performances and skits performed by the talented people of the parish. The stage was elegantly set up in the open grounds of the church inviting the Konkani folks for the night. The entire programme was planned with the intention to uplift Konkani music and encourage the talents of the parish.

Popular MC Roman Lobo compered the programme. The inauguration took place in an impressive way, where all the present members of PYC released balloons into the sky.

Fr Paul Rego, parish priest and director of PYC initiated the programme with a melodious invocation.

Founder member of PYC and a senior singer Jerald Rodrigues (Jerry Master) who composed the song 'Amchem PYC' was rendered well by the honorary members. The young talent, Viola Pinto came up with the song 'Dees Raath Moga' composed by Roshan, Belman, while Alba Lobo thrilled the crowd with her song 'Muzem Kaliz mogar podlam' composed by Konkani Kogul. Another young singer of the parish and emerging artiste Jaison Sequeira entertained the crowd with his 'Ye Nari Ye.'

A song conveying message about relationship with the neighbours 'Mog Kera Sezara' was sung by Jerald and Vijaya D’Costa. The budding talent Bryan Peris performed 'Haanv Chintha' followed by a duet number 'Piso' from Jaison and Nelson Sequeira.

PYC members and honorary members led by James D’Souza pleased the gathering with their hilarious jokes.

Richard Fernandes and Alba lobo, the talented singers of the parish mesmerized the audience with 'Ye chedwa.'

The entire musical show was organised by popular musical group Mangalore Trinity, lead by Sachin Sequeira. PYC honoured Sachin Sequeira for his achievements in Konkani music over the past decade. He later played 'Drums Solo' in a grand style astonishing the crowd with his skills.

The Nite showed that the Gurpur-Kaikamba parish has not only plenty of talented singers but also good composers. Oswald Peris composed 'Kogul Gaitha' which was sung by daughter Fiona Peris and cheered by everyone present. Charles D’Cunha, Kowdorr (Now in Mumbai) who composed Konkani Bhaas received abundance of praise when sung by Alfred and Oswald Peris, Kaikamba.

The group singing teams too charmed the show with performances like 'Amorichi Gaant,' 'Zaite Zen Kazar Zale' and 'Atanso sonsar.'

Asthitha Rodrigues gifted with her marvellous voice performed the song 'Chili pili Suknano.' Goan song 'Meera' was sung by Fredwing followed by 'Yo Baile Yo' by Melanie Peris.

Dances in between the songs kept the audience at thoroughly delighted, especially the brilliant dances by Simmy and group and Ancilla and group.

PYC honoured the main and co-sponsors of the event and thanked all the people who helped in making the event a grand success.

The programme concluded with a Konkani traditional 'Maando' followed by non-stop baila. The programme was well-appreciated by all the thousand people who witnessed the PYC Nite. The programme will be replayed on  Coastal Times channel at 7:30 pm on Friday December 10.

Kudos to PYC President & Members for organizing such a superb event to promote Konkani and talents of our parishners. Lot of efforts and hard work is required in organizing such program and I am sure our Pompei parisheners are capable of doing this with their great unity.
The opportunity you gave now to our youngsters will boost their confidence as they move forward and reach to other parts of the world. I remember as a PYC member in 1980’s I got lot of exposure to show my leadership qualities and acting capabilities which made me confident to act in Dubai in Francis Fernandes’s drama ‘AVOI TI AVOI’ and other leading dramas as well as to take active part in Mangalore Konkans Dubai as a committee member to organize top class events. We come across many talents groomed by PYC have shined in Gulf and other countries.
Keep up the good work and may our Lady of Pompei guard and guide you to do such wonderful work
