Mangaluru, Jan 5: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra KV on Wednesday January 5 said that the weekend curfew will begin in the district this week following the new guidelines issued by the government.
Speaking in a press meet regarding the state government's new guidelines issued to contain the spread of Omicron variant, the DC said, "The night curfew will be imposed from Friday 8 pm till Monday 5 am.
“The district administration has allowed bus transport during the weekend curfew. Shops selling essential commodities are allowed to open. I appeal the public to buy essential commodities from shops near to their residence and to avoid unnecessary traveling to contain the spread of the virus,” he said.
The DC also directed officials to grant holidays to the schools and colleges during the weekend curfew. “Students who have to appear for the exams can travel along using their examination hall ticket.
Marriages and religious programmes which are already scheduled are allowed to take place as per the guidelines of the state government. Only 200 people can take part in these programmes.
“The religious programmes are requested to be postponed. Only the inevitable pre-scheduled programmes will be allowed as per the guidelines of the government. As usual, the night curfew will be in force,” he said.
The DC also appealed to the public to cooperate voluntarily to contain the spread of the virus. The public should avoid lockdown by taking self-responsibility, he urged.
