Bengaluru, Jan 7: Karnataka on Friday January 7 registered another sharp spike in the number of Covid cases, with the state reporting as many as 8,449 new infections.
As per the bulletin released by the state health department, the active cases in the state have shot up to 30,113. Among the districts, Bengaluru Urban registered the highest number of single-day cases with 6,812 new infections, while Mysuru's tally increased by 219, and Dakshina Kannada reported 211 cases.
Four deaths due to coronavirus were reported in the state on Friday, among which three were from Bengaluru Urban and one from Dakshina Kannada. With this, the toll so far stands at 38,362.
The state recorded 505 discharges from hospitals, taking the total discharges so far to 29,62,548.
So far, Karnataka has seen 30,31,052 positive cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
The positivity rate for the day has risen sharply to 4.15% from under 0.5% two weeks ago, while the case fatality rate for the day is 0.04%.
Omicron cases in the state have risen to 333.
As many as 8,92,55,532 vaccination doses have been administered so far.
