About Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas

Msgr Raymond was the first diocesan priest of city diocese and was declared the Servant of God on June 3, 2008 by a Decree from Rome, by Aloysius Paul, the Bishop of Mangalore.  He is the founder of the congregation of the Sisters of the Littler Flower of Bethany and Bethany Educational Society.

Born in 1875 at Shimoga, he was brought up in Falnir, Milagres Parish. The parish has four-fold reasons to celebrate the 50TH death anniversary of this great man.  Firstly, as a parishioner he received his first Holy Communion, offered his first ordination, mass of thanksgiving, and his first assignment as a priest of Mangalore diocese was in the same parish. He also completed his primary education at Milagres School.

It was indeed remarkable that his death anniversary coincided with the Centenary year of Milagres Church.

I have pleasant memories of this worthy Priest. When I was in elementary school he was the Parish Priest of St. Sebastian's Church in Bendur. As I recall - he was one of the finest priests that I have known. Very kind - very approachable and very understanding. When he started the Bethany Order, I do not think that he realized that it would reach such great heights. Monsignor Raymond was related to my wife Irene (nee Mascarenhas) and we had the privilege of having him bless our nuptials in 1950.

I join several others in praying for his canonization.
