Haveri, Jan 10: The children neglecting their old parents who dedicate their whole life to provide a secure future to the former is unfortunate yet common. There are several instances of the aged parents getting mercilessly disowned and rendered homeless by their grown up children.
In a similar incident at Veerapur village in Hangal taluk of the district, the children, after convincing their mother to transfer the property in their names, evicted her from the house and left her to fend for herself. However, this mother, instead of being a meek victim, decided to fight back and the revenue officers of the district recently passed a judgement in her favour.
Savanur assistant commissioner Mudakammanavar passed an order on January 6 this year, allotting a share in the property as per the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. The order was issued in favour of Premanna Havalannanavar (76), who was betrayed by both her sons. The mother who fought the case in the assistant commissioner's court for three years for a share in the property from her children, got justice finally.
Premavva had said in her petition that her sons, Dhanik Kumar and Santosh, as well as daughters and sisters-in-law had driven her out of her home. She had sought cancellation of mutation as her name did not appear in the property records as a result of foul play by her children. She had complained that she had to take refuge in an orphanage.
The assistant commissioner, who heard the arguments, ordered cancellation of the mutation done earlier. Hangal tahsildar Yarriswamy has ordered to add Premavva's name in the ownership documents of the house and land. Mudakammanavar referred to the Kerala High Court decision in a similar case while passing the order.
