Udupi: Shasti Mahotsav Celebrated at Santhor, Sooda with Devotional Fervour

Udupi, Dec 11: 'Shasti Mahotsav’ was celebrated with much devotion at the historically famous Shree Subrahmanya Temple, Santhor and Shree Subrahmanya Temple, Sooda, near here, on Saturday December 11.

The temples are among the ancient Skanda-dedicated temples located in Karkala taluk. Devotees flocked the temples in thousands and had ‘Annasantharpane’ prasadam. As many as ten thousand devotees received prasadam. It is worth noting that every year the number of devotees increases even though the temples are situated in rural areas.
 
Special pujas are being offered at the temples as it is believed that it was constructed by sage Bhargava in ancient times. It is significant that those who have no ‘Nagabana’ arrive at the temple to offer milk at the Nagabana here believing it to be their own.
 
The devotees arrive at the temple in large numbers during Shasti Mahotsav and seek blessings for children, prosperity, health, and wealth. They seek the intervention of the divine by offering various pujas including ‘Nagatambila,’ ‘Nagatanu,’ and ‘Ashlesha.’

Traditional agricultural accessories, wooden vessels, sickles, and other household items that have been used since ages in Tulunadu are available at the stalls put up during the Mahotsav on the temple premises. The stalls are one of the specialties of the celebrations.
