Puttur, Jan 15: The rural police have arrested two rowdy sheeters for sending death threat to a businessman over the phone and extorting money from him.
It is said that unknown persons were calling the businessman under the limits of Puttur rural police station demanding money to release a person who is in jail.
The accused had demanded Rs 13,00,000 from the victim and to hand over Rs 3,50,000 within two days. They also had threatened to kill the victim and his family members and not to reveal the matter to anyone.
The police have registered a case under sections 504, 506, 507 and 387 0f IPC.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Kalandar Shareef alias Shafi, from Bantwal and Hasanabba alias Hasan alias Achhu alias Achunu from Mangaluru. The duo was arrested while receiving cash from the victim.
Police have recovered Rs 50,000 cash, a car and mobile phones from the accused.
Kalandar is also a rowdy sheeter under Bantwal town police station. Hasanabba is a rowdy sheeter under the Konaje police station. A dacoity case is registered in Ullal and Kankanady police station limits against him.
