Mangalore: Kadri Kambala Relives Splendour of Buffalo Race

Mangalore, Dec 13: The main attraction and distinct feature of Kadri Kambala – Buffalo Race, the folk sports event that had history of royal patronage was held amid much fanfare on Sunday December 12 evening.

 

The buffalo race was held in three categories – Kenehalage, Hagga Hiriya and Hagga Kiriya.  A J Shetty, chairman of A J Group gave away prizes to the winners in these categories. The first prize winning buffalos were presented with a gold medal.

In Kenehalage category one pair of buffalo, in Hagga Hiriya category four pairs of buffaloes and in hagga kiriya category eight pairs of buffaloes participated.

Winners

Kenehalage category – First Prize – Gurupura Kedaguri Guruvappa Poojary and Narnappa Salian, Puttur.

Hagga Hiriya category – First Prize - Moodbidri Hosamane Gopala Krishna Bhat and Arala Bandashale Jaya Shetty

Second Prize – Panjikallu Kajebailu William Rodrigues and Karinja Bailu Chandrashekar Poojary.

Hagga Kriya category – First Prize – Mundkuru Hosamane Yathish Shetty and Attaru Kodange Sathish Salian.

Second prize – Kulai Babu Shetty and Arala Bandasale Jayaram Shetty.

    Thanks Daijiworld for the report and photos. Since I am from Kadri Kambla, the report of Kambla took me to my childhood days. I am happy that the tradition still continues. Late Mr. Balakrishna Shetty and his family has been playing an important role in this venture. Congratulations!

    Excellent sport events good coverage by dajiworld State Minister Palemar should take a note to seek /arrange some grand from state govt for this sports organisation instead dependent on particular sponsor or arrange UNDER ONE UMBRELLA - BULL RACE one year in MANGLORE / second year in UDUPI.
    This DK sports should be promoted on state level who knows second time like Kabbadi,Buffalo race will find place in ASIA GAME or in Olympic dear sir you should do your best to boost this SPORTS of DK Jai tulunad.
