Karkala: Disappointed at low marks in exam, student ends life

Karkala, Jan 17: Anwith Shetty (14), an eighth standard student of a private English medium school in Hebri, ended his life by hanging. He was thoroughly disappointed at the low marks he secured in the examination, it is said.

Anwith was the son of Sathish Shetty and Mamata Shetty from Kerebattu. After observing that his elder brother who entered the bathroom on Sunday morning stayed there for an unusually long period, Anwith's younger brother knocked at the bathroom door but Anwith did not open it. He then peeped through the window and saw that Anwith had hanged himself by tying the veil of a churidar to the iron rod inside the bathroom, and fastening the other end around his own neck. He had used a bucket to hang himself.

The parents immediately took the boy to a private hospital at Hebri. The doctors who checked him confirmed that he was no more. A case has been registered in Hebri police station in this respect.

    Pressure on children needs to be avoided. Kids should be counselled by parents or with some help from experts to reduce their stress. Their mind is not matured and they pick some unwanted idea's from outside world.

    There should be a subject in the 8th standard social studies the value of technical,arts, theatre,agriculture and sport skill. Because the students who are not good in studies can divert their minds to these skills and the parents should support whole heartedly. Students should remember that each person God has given special talent for his survival.

    In K Surathkal ,hard to believe this.Our small children are under pressure in their small age itself.Even as you expressed to have other subjects and to divert their mind also will not help.Important is to take pressure from children in studies .Urgently something must change in students life and studies.As I know in India children have to give a test before they get a seat in KG with 3 years.Imagine ,in KG they have to learn all these and that.That should be avoided.Let these children enjoy their childhood.They can learn in school when they go there.Here in Germany children in KG dont have to carry big school bag,no test in english .Only one test from doctor to see if they are ok in their health ,mentally ,coop with other children etc.In kg they simply sing dance or learn some songs ,learn something etc.So only at the age of 6-7years go to the school when able.There they start to learn abc.when some children are not mentally fit ,they will have to go other school where only slow learning is practiced.such schools are neede in India.May God give enough strenght to family to bear the pain.May his soul rest in peace.Parents should avoid to put pressure to learn to become doctor or Inginier.

    I AM NOT ACCUSING ANYONE, BUT PARENTS PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUT STUDY PRESSURE ON CHILDREN. SCARED OF LOW MARKS AND GETTING STRESSED ABOUT PARENTS ACTION ON CHILDREN THINGS MAY GO OUT OF CONTROL. IT'S VERY PAINFUL ON THE DEATH OF AN ANGEL BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT'S A LESSON FOR EVERY PARENT. ALWAYS TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE CAPACITY OF YOUR CHILD AND DEAL WITH THEM. GOD BLESS!

    Such a young life just gone off. Most of the times recently what we have observed is that parents pressurize their children to perform better than their own capabilities. Comparison with other kids, comparing marks with brighter students, pressurizing children to get 90+ marks etc is pretty common. It is like either perform or perish. So with the parents' fear of scolding and being beaten up at times, children take extreme steps. So parents have now lost a child itself. Imagine living in that trauma for the rest of your lives.

    Hindu Khatre main hai... because of themselves, this kind of slogans never gain anything. we should teach our children values of life. Really feel very bad, RIP to the departed soul and heartfelt condolences for the bereaved family

    Very tragic incident. May his sol rest in peace. Almighty Lord give courage to his family. Totally confused, how an 8th grade (13~14Y) boy thought of ending life for 8th grade marks? It is not an board exam to go for professional course or prerequisite for any higher study. Some time we, parents also responsible. Pressurize the kid or compare to other's kids ete.
