Mangaluru: Danny Paul, Maxim Joseph nabbed for assaulting cops

Mangaluru, Jan 21: A duo has been arrested for assaulting two policemen while they were returning from work to the staff quarters.

The arrested are Danny Paul (39) and Maxim Joseph Noronha (54) from the city.

Accused

Victim police personnel

The duo reportedly assaulted police staff Shivananda D T and Beerendra S Meti while they were returning to their quarters at around 10. 10 PM on January 18 at Yeyyadi junction. The accused who came in a car (KA-18 MG 0007) allegedly waylaid the motorbike on which police officers were riding and removed the key from it.

Later, they allegedly attacked the Shivananda and Beerendra who were in uniform hurling abuses at him. The duo pulled the uniform of the policemen breaking the buttons of the shirt, accused them of extortion and threatened them with dire consequences, according to the complaint. The accused also reportedly snatched a belonging of the police officers,

It is said that the complainants have been working in the Mangaluru East Police station for the past six years. A complaint has been registered at the Kadri East police station.

There must be some reason why the accused assaulted the two policemen. The policemen must have done something wrong with the two accused. If there is action, only there is a reaction. The cops in Mangalore are quiet famous for looting the common middle class and poor people, quoting it form my personal experience.

2 minutes silence to all those who believed the 2 young, energetic, trained police officers were abused, bullied and attacked by the older civilians 😃😃😃😃 if there is one iota of truth, the cops in question should hang their heads in shame for their inconpetency to defend themself.

I request the DIG to terminate both these 2 police constables Shivananda D T and Beerendra S Meti immediately. Reasons are very simple. These 2 constables are young, energetic, in the photograph they looks like around 30 years where as the accused Danny Paul (39) and Maxim Joseph Noronha (54) years old. If the police who have been trained, are not able to defend themselves from the older people, they are unfit to be in that department. Secondly, as per the victims complain, they have been assaulted by the accused at 10.10 pm. Both the so called accused have no past criminal records, where as these police men might be definitely harassed the accused unnecessarily. Third, no sensible person will dare to touch policemen on duty and that too, by 2 elderly person with the young policemen. By the outlook, this seems definitely fabricated story.

"This 2 working in the Mangaluru East Police station for the past six years" - keeping police in same police station more than 3 years is more dangerous than anything, they have good hold to extort money from people for silly reason - transfer them every 2 to 3 years and see the result, people should demand to transfer these kind of police within 2 to 3 years , because of few corrupts police rest others are getting bad name.

At the face of it this appears to be a fully concocted story as no ordinary people, with no prior history of crime, will ever do such an act of assault even under the influence of stimulants for whatever reason! Generally speaking, law enforcement agencies, all over, have become notorious for nefarious things; the very recent example is the Mumbai drug case fiasco involving top Narcotic department and other officers which is well in full public domain!

Doctor no one is above the Law, need to verify other side of the story or need to verify nearby CC TV images , do you think 2 strong trained policemen can not overpower 2 old men? or they were wearing bangles at that time? While I do not wish to condone the acts of the accused, I am of the opinion that there will certainly be something behind these actions. It is an open secret that the police department has lost its credibility these days and many a time they swing into action only if the person approaching them is influential or offers money to them. Gone are the days when the police used to command respect. A lot of rot has seeped into the whole system.

When we hear other side of the story it probably is like this- they were returning after some function and as it was curfew time police stopped them wearing uniforms after their duty is over and tried to extort money from these people which might have led to the altercation. As they were not on duty no case of obstructing police on duty can't be charged this story is concocted as the log book won't support their case. 4 decades back a constable working in Mangalore used to stand near a bridge with uniform and extract money from vehicles 20 kms away from his work place in the mornings. His luck ran out when strict S I of that area came on early morning beat and asked him which station he is from , after finding the truth he ordered him to remove his uniform and not to repeat this warning about dire consequences. There ended the game. I ask people to get videoshoot whenever you are confronted by any govt officials as proof of your innocence.

I am advocate. But I don't trust police 1%. I trust God and say 100% the complaint is false.. I think better than court let those two cops get into the Infant Jesus Church, Mangalore and also to a temple and take a vow that their complaint is true. Looking at the faces of cops one can understand how reliable they can be. Also one can assume through accused faces that they are innocent.

Nothing strange. You try to counter argue with police , then you will be surprised these same cases will be put against you... You don't have to actually do it. This is standard case building procedure. If you do that with lady official, then the case will be attempt to assault sexually. How's that? Our lawyer readers know this very well.
