Mangaluru Jan 25: A new trade license app has been introduced by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) which will make it convenient for the traders to obtain new licenses as well as renew existing ones, said Mangaluru Mayor Premanada Shetty.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, January 25, Premananda Shetty said, "The response from the public to the new online application software has been positive. All the eligible applications for trade license during 2022-23 will be pushed to the database for renewal and then the traders will get an SMS notification to their registered mobile number. Traders can login to the MCC trade license mobile app and select the payment mode, they will get a provisional certificate which can be downloaded very easily. The provisional certificates will be valid for 15 days. During this period, the applicant as well as the health inspector can raise objections for invalid and incorrect entries or records in the provisional certificate."

"If there are no objections, the applicants can go ahead and download the trade license certificate for the year 2022-23. So far 23,000 trade licenses have been renewed and new ones issued while close to 6000 traders are yet to renew or take new licenses. We have collected a total amount of Rs 10 Crore as fee for trade license, which is double compared to last year," added the mayor.

He also clarified that the paying guest accomodations, any new business venture in MCC limits will need a license failing which the ward health superintendent and MPW supervisor concerned will serve notices for functioning illegally .

"We have received several complaints regarding property tax during our visit to the zonal offices that the database has not been updated. Tax has been collected from 23,000 properties since November 2021 to the tune of Rs 7.4 Crore. The online payment mode has become very convenient for the people as they don't have to physically visit the MCC office and take any trouble, he opined.

Hence the Anthony Waste Management's contract will be extended for a year," said Premananda Shetty.
