Udupi, Jan 26: Relating to the controversy over the rejection of a Kerala government tableau depicting Narayana Guru from participation in the Republic Day parade, newly appointed district in-charge minister S Angara, said that everyone is affectionate and respectful towards Brahmashree Narayana Guru. However, he said he is opposed to making use of the Guru's stature for reaping political benefit.
He expressed the opinion that arrangements should be made to conserve the history of Narayana Guru.
Angara stated that the Prime Minister has been developing five destinations to permanently preserve the history of Ambedkar.
"None of us have any less respect and reverence for Narayana Guru. In the past, these issues were not raked up. Now they are doing this with a political angle. A Support system will automatically be created if emotions are attached to it,” he said.
On the issue of crossing over of leaders from the BJP to other parties, he said that one should think how he should behave after getting positions of power with the support of organizations and parties. The parties on their own will not abandon anyone. But if the people reach a situation where they have to leave, the party cannot be held responsible, he stated.
Responding to dissatisfaction expressed by some legislators, he said that making district in-charge minister is a decision of the party. He said he is not unhappy about it. "Even in the past I was the in-charge minister for this district. Now this position has been made permanent. Anyway, I have to work in my constituency. Now I have to give attention to this additional responsibility. Whether they give me the position or not, as a minister, I have to discharge my duties," he explained. He also hastened to add that everyone cannot be made happy.
Talking about BJP leaders meeting Shivakumar, he said that such rumours may also be floated against him. He said that such malicious propaganda need not be taken seriously. On the issue of the wearing of Hijab by the girls of government PU college here, he said that the government works for equality and formed a committee which will take a decision.
On the remark of Siddaramaiah that the BJP is a sinking ship, Angara said that in fact, Siddaramaiah is a sinking ship. He also charged Siddaramaiah of having no clarity of aim unlike the BJP.
He said that at 10 am on every Monday, he will be available in the office of the in-charge minister here, and on Tuesdays, he would be available in Sullia constituency. He added that on Monday afternoons, he would be in the fisheries office at Mangaluru while on other days he would be touring the state.
