Mangalore, Dec 19: ‘Premal Saanz’ Konkani music concert by veteran singer Prem Kumar was staged at Milagres parish grounds here on Sunday December 19 as a tribute to Konkann Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus, his mentor of over four decades, on the occasion of the tri-centenary celebrations of Our Lady of Miracles parish, Milagres, here.

The first song, ‘Shraddhanjali,' was sung by Prem, Claude D’Souza, and Ivan Sequeira. Prem garlanded a portrait of the late Wilfy Rebimbus.

Speaking on the occasion, Prem recalled his long association with the legendary singer which inspired him to stage his first musical concert as a tribute to Wilfy Rebimbus. He said that his family members were the parishioners of Milagres for six decades and he wanted to stage his first musical concert to mark the tri-centenary celebrations of his ancestral parish.

Mangalore diocese vicar general Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu released Prem’s first CD ‘Premal Ulo’ during the programme.

Prem’s brother Connel Lobo and his wife Anita, Prem’s wife Lynet, Milagres parish priest Fr Walter D’Mello and Mumbai musician Nakash were present on the dais.

Numbers like ‘Tuji Jini,' ‘Fula Abdulla,' ‘Matintgo Chintna,' ‘Soro Jai,' ‘Arundati,' ‘Tum Mola Dakaitai,' ‘Ami Burgi Bharat Matechi,' ‘2012,' ‘Chedwa Matari Jainant,' ‘Tarnyatyano Uta,' ‘Ek Nachpachi Kata,' ‘Tujem Rupnem Moga,' ‘Ye Mogora’ and ‘Santos Bogta,' were sung by singers Claude, Hubert, Noushad, Ivan, Prakash, Zina, Ralph, Munita, Rony, Asha, Oshin, Samanta, Alisha, Alita, Wimelda, Anston, Elton, Fr Roshan D’Mello, Avina, Noreen, Nelli, Roshni, and Melvyn.

Joswin, Mervyn, Veneet, Gangadas, Umesh and Soman were the musicians.

The comedy troupe ‘Me Mo Ry’ staged mimicry and entertained the audience with some delightful jokes that added a touch of humour to the evening.

John Monteiro introduced Prem to the gathering and Leslie Rego compered the programme.

    Dear Prem
Happy to see the photos of your first ever Nite dedicated to Wilfyab. I am sure the Nite was a great success knowing you and the organizers. Keep it up buddy and wishing you lots of success going forward.
I also endorse the sentiments of Max Rasquinha. If there was someone who contributed immensely to the cause of Konkani, influenced millions of Konkani speaking people in their life, made them laugh, cry, sing in Konkani, it was late Wilfy Rebimbus in his own humble way. Sad that World “Konkani convention organizers” could not even organize a symposium on his works/songs. I do not think it matters much to the millions of his ardent admirers. He was/is our hero.
Congratulations again Prem for your kind thought of dedicating the Nite to “Wilfy Rebimbus”.

Congratulations to Mr.Prem Kumar on your First musical concert and release of fist CD.From the photos and the report i understood that the programme was well organised and i am sure it has become the success.

But i was not very much convinced with the date of the programme as th same day being the conclusive ceremony of First Konkani cultural convention being conducted at near Nehru Maidan. I strongly feel the crowd has got split in to two programes which is not good. Both the events were at good intention of rising Konkani language. Being a small community, the dates of the NITE should have been changed.I was also understood that another programme was conducted in Alangar, Moodbidri on Christmas Utsav. According to me, the first ever konkani cultural convention should have taken the priority.

Anyways, this was my thoughts, but with the life being busy and considering the season, getting dates for the programmes are difficult.
I request the konkani organisers to take care of this in the future.

Thank you, Prem and the rest of the team for a job well done. The work of talent rendered by late Wilfy Rebimbos need by upheld wherever possible so that the quality and value of Konkany music and lyrics will remain progressed at all times. Late Wilfy Rebimbos will be proud of all you, and therefore let the Konkany shows of this kind continue to prevail in memory of Wilfy Rebimbos.

Just a simple and humble thought of sentiment, we wonder why late Wilfy Rebimbos was not remembered during the past 25 days when the Konkany Convention took place so prominently and so successfully. It would have only nice and fitting gesture of tribute to a legend who has given so much for the Konkany society.
