Udupi : Catherine Rodrigues' First Konkani Book 'Sathem' Released

Udupi, Dec 20: Multi-lingual writer Catherine Rodridues' first-ever Konkani book in print was released at a ceremony held in Sharadha Vasudeva Kala Bhavana, Katpady here on Sunday, December 19 morning.
Mariads Publication, headed by well-known Konkani litterateur, activist and advertising entrepeneur H R Alva, published Catherine's Konkani work'Sathem,' a collection of short stories.
This is the third in the series of books released by Mariads Publication, earlier ones being 'Mjoe CYM Dees' by H R Alva, and 'Vozram' by Austin D'Souza Prabhu.
Well-known Konkani writer and activist Austin D'Souza Prabhu presided over the programme. Albert W D'Souza of Printania Offset, Mumbai was the chief guest.
H R Alva formally introduced the guests and gave a brief introduction about Catherine Rodrigues.
Speaking about the book, Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com, highlighted the preface written by Concepta Fernandes and said, "In Catherine's stories, one comes across the diverse ways of life led by Hindus, Muslims and Christians. This is something that is rare in Konkani literature and perhaps Catherine is the only writer who has touched this aspect."
Addressing the gathering after releasing the book, Albert W D'Souza expressed his concern over the dwindling reading habits among today's generation due to the advent of internet and cell phones. He urged Catherine to continue her mission in Konkani, and assured his support in printing her books in future too.
Austin Prabhu, in his presidential address urged people not to be selfish and to support each other and promote the beautiful Konkani language and literature.
He wished Catherine success in future endeavours, and requested her to write more books in Konkani.
Acknowledging the wishes extended to her, Catherine remembered her family members, well-wishers, and everyone who supported her in her literary journey. She made a special mention of H R Alva and Concepta Alva and their longstandng friendship, and expressed her gratitude to them for publishing her first Konkani book.
Concepta Alva compered the event and proposed the vote of thanks.
'Sathem,' the newly-released book contains 12 award-winning Konkani short stories.
