Bengaluru, Jan 28: As per a report brought out by Greenpeace India, ten cities including Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Mysuru have recorded high levels of pollution in spite of the fact that corona-related measures are in place.

Greenpeace India has relied on the data of the Central Pollution Control Board from November 2020 to November 2021 when arriving at this conclusion. It said that the pollution levels in these cities is much higher than the standards set by the World Health Organization. It said that the air quality (PM 2.5) levels in Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Amravati are higher by six to seven times of the World Health Organization guidelines. Particulate matter in Mysuru, Kochi, Chennai and Puducherry are four to five times higher. As per the report of an English newspaper, air pollution has turned worse not only in north India but also in the south.

Air pollution was expected to go down when lockdown was imposed. But the ten cities picked for the study recorded much higher levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 guidelines, the report stated. Pollution levels in Mangaluru, Amravati, Chennai and Kochi are three to four times higher while in Mysuru, Coimbatore, Puducherry etc are two to three times higher as compared to the standard level.

Most of the big cities will become unlivable if this continues. If you observe, the number of people who are suffering from chronic diseases increasing. Not sure any organization is conducting any investigation to understand the reasons for these diseases. We blame on our lifestyle! That need not be completely true!

Part of the pollution is because of the noxious gases emitting from pettha's backside creating strong methane inducing compounds that pollute the ozone layer...in other words, when cows eat grass they create dangerous methane like gases from their pookis...too many cows, too much pollution

My only comment here is let us not go against nature, this is the root cause of all these problems we are facing currently. Going to fundamentals this is the life cycle of living creatures (animals), which should not be disturbed and give room for many problems in future.

Let me share a information as part of discussion to my friends where Khaleej Times dated January 27, 2022 indicated: Since 2009, UAE have removed around one billion car trips by implementation of METRO services from the road network which has contributed to reduction of around 2.6 million tons of Carbon Dioxide emissions. This means even though we cannot implement METRO due to high CAPEX involved, we can plan to swap diesel operated vehicles to Electric vehicles on a fast track basis and we need infrastructure development on a phased basis .

Bhutan is not listed among Other Asia Pacific countries which accounts to about 205.2 Million Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide during 2020 as per BP Energy statistics, whereas India accounts to 2302.3 Million Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide during 2020 which is about 10 times that of Other Asia Pacific countries. Based on the statistics data, it is noted that, Fossil Fuel (Crude Oil & Coal) exploring countries are the major contributors to Green House Gas emissions. The message here is we need a Energy Mix strategy to fight Global Warming.

This is due to a phenomenon called Global Dimming which is the reduction in the amount of global direct irradiance at the that has been observed since systematic measurements began in the 1950s. The effect varies by location, but worldwide it has been estimated to be of the order of a 4–20% reduction. However, after discounting an anomaly caused by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, a very slight reversal in the overall trend has been observed. Global dimming is thought to have been caused by an increase in particulates or aerosols, such as sulfate aerosols in the atmosphere due to human action. It has interfered with the hydrological cycle by reducing evaporation and may have reduced rainfall in some areas. Global dimming has been attributed as the leading factor in the 1984 Ethiopian famine by reducing heating at the tropics which drives the annual monsoon, or wet season. Ways to Reduce Global Dimming is: 1. Switching to alternative sources of energy 2. Reducing levels of pollution (Limiting Diesel & Coal consumption for transportation & power generation) 3. Controlling wildfires (Which is not there in India) 4. Switching to nuclear energy.

Let us always look ahead for something positive dear. What i understand is Climate change has become a major challenge for all of us. The Green House Gases (Carbon Dioxide) emission started increasing since 1960 after the Fossil fuel (Oil & Gas and Coal) exploration started taking shape, however we need this primary energy and measures to mitigate these emissions need to be implemented on a fast track basis. Quote: COP 21 (Paris agreement on climate change during 2015) and COP 26 (Glasgow conference on climate change during November 2021) declarations on Green House Gases emission reductions to restrict global warming to 1.5 °C.

To my understanding MRPL, MCF and other industries at MSEZ have their own mitigating measures for air and water pollution. Kindly note due to these industries there is employment opportunity directly or indirectly for about 10,000/- people. However it our fundamental duty as honorable citizens to look at the big picture to mitigate emissions to fight for Climate Change. Currently as per statistics, China ranks # 1, United States # 2, European Union # 3 and India # 4 in Green House Gas emissions. Technologies are in place to mitigate global emissions. Hope our union government will allocate a sizable budget for Climate change for the Financial year 2022-23. During the Climate change conference November 2021 at Glasgow about 200 countries have participated and have signed an agreement to restrict the Global warming temperature to 1.5 degree Celsius by 2030. To perform this task respective Governments have to allocate funds to meet this major challenge.

da great envioronmental pollution is from karangalpady new cross road (c.g.kamath road). corporation authorities, & da corporator have kept a blind eye on it. dis road was dug 3 months b4 & da work is going on in a snails pace. da biggest polution comes from da sewage water flows in da thodu (rain water drenching groove) 24X7. a filthy smell in da air 2 da residents . it is free 2 da residents even after paying taxes 2 da corporation. no authorities r looking X2 residents daily woo's/sufferings.

When almost every person wants or is expected to own a vehicle as a status symbol, when people who walk or use public transport are looked down upon, when traffic jams with idling smoke let off into the air is ok so long as the car owners are sitting comfortably in the air-conditioned vehicle, when vehicles are not checked for emissions, instead district officials are busy with useless things, vaccines for example.... pollution is bound to happen. First get rid of the moral pollution. Then air pollution, noise pollution, garbage, etc., will automatically decrease.

Not to worry - Govt will relax SPM, NOx, CO2, SO2 etc. levels so that all these cities become 'non-polluting' on 'paper'. and will roundly denounce Greenpeace as being anti-India.

There are many reasons for Mangalore pollution. I can say the factories are not maintained properly. Those multinational companies should be fined , who are responsible for pollution. Their licence should be canceled for one month or so, then only this can be controlled. Then vehicles which are out dated still in use. No vehicles pollution checking by concerned authorities. Most important is City and Service buses running inside city only. First shieft the service bus stand. 50% city pollution will come down. THE BIG BLUNDER OUR MCC HAS DONE IS SANCTIONED CORES OF RUPEES TO IMPROVE THE PRESENT SERVICE BUS STAND AT CENTRAL MAIDAN. IMMEDIATELY THIS SHOULD CANCEL THE AMOUNT SANCTIONED . That what I believe.
