Udupi: Flurry of Activities at TP Office on Last Day of Filing Nominations

Udupi, Dec 20: Monday December 20 being the last date for filing nominations to offer candidature for the forthcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections, flurry of activities were witnessed at the centre to file nomnations in the town.

BJP District Mahila Morcha president Reshma Uday Shetty, ZP member Nayana ganesh, Katpady Shankar Poojary, Geetanjali Suvarna and Yashwant Shetty among others filed the nomination papers. MLA Raghupati Bhat, Lalji R Mendon, BJP leaders B N Shanker Poojary and Barkur Shantaram Shetty accompanied the candidates. Janardan Tonse and Bhujanga Shetty were among teh Congress leaders.  

As it was Bharani-Krutika on Friday and Saturday not many filed nominations on these days. The activities began at around 9.00 am on Monday at the taluk panchayat office here with BJP, Congress and JDS candidates filing their nominations. In front of the office many members of the various parties had gathered.

The uniqueness of this year's filing of nominations are that women are the majority for many of the constituencies are reserved for women candidates. Many of the prominent leaders failed to secure tickets due to the reservation this time around and thereby have nominated candidates within the family, it is being witnessed.
