Bantwal, Jan 29: Due to the callous handling of the highway work going on at Kalladka, the compound wall of the house of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader, Dr Prabhakar Bhat, crashed to the ground. This incident happened on the night of Thursday January 27.
The road widening work between B C Road and Addahole is going on at a brisk pace even at night. Service road construction has been simultaneously undertaken. When executing this work, Dr Bhat's compound wall crashed, causing a loss of lacs of rupees.
Along with turning the highway into four-lane one, cement pipes are also being laid to allow water to drain out freely. In order to lay the cement pipes in front of Dr Bhat's house that is located in Kalladka downtown, land near the compound wall was dug up. As the soil was dug from the edge of the compound wall till its base, the compound wall gave way because of loose soil beneath.
It is said that the service road is presently being constructed on both the sides of the proposed flyover. There have been claims that accurate survey work about the road widening has not been conducted so far. The highway department is expected to clear the doubts in the minds of the public in this regard.
