Acharya Takes on Governor for Meddling in State Administration

Bangalore, Dec 20: The normally reticent Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya has taken sharp exception to Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj’s frequent criticism of a duly elected state government headed by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and went to the extent of publicly denouncing the day-to-day meddling of Raj Bhavan in the state administration.

The public criticism of the Governor by a person known for his highly cultured and civilized behaviour, which comes close on the heels of the state BJP president K S Eshwarappa, who had openly attacked Bhardwaj and had even challenged him to contest in the ongoing taluk and zilla panchayat polls instead of functioning like a de-facto opposition leader, is an indication of the souring of relations between the Yeddyurappa regime and Raj Bhavan.

Dr Acharya said the Governor’s duty was only to discharge the constitutional responsibilities entrusted on him and not indulging in politics by questioning the day-today administrative decisions.

''If the Governor goes on publicly criticising the legitimate decisions taken by the duly elected government, people will lose confidence in the constitutional position and also the impartiality of the governor," he said.

The Governor had publicly rebuked the Government for its failure to check illegal mining and demanded a reply from Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, which was complied with by the latter. The charges against the government with regard to alleged land scams and illegal mining, Yeddyurappa said, were politically motivated.

Dr Acharya also hit out at United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for her remarks against the Karnataka government with regard to corruption.

Gandhi has attacked the BJP for its failure to act against Yeddyurappa on corruption charges at the the party's 83rd plenary session in Delhi. Can the BJP do so in regards to Karnataka where corruption is rampant or in other BJP states or for that matter in Leftist states, she had asked.

Dr Acharya also condemned sacrifice of a three-year-old girl child allegedly by a tantrik in Yeyyadi area of the Mangalore city last week and said the government would take stringent action. ''No civilized person can tolerate such inhuman action," he said.

Friends, these are not Dr. Acharya’s words, rather CM’s words put into Dr. V.S. Acharya’s mouth. We have experienced this for the last two and half years, that CM’s habit of firing bullets from other’s shoulder. I don’t agree that Dr. Acharya is cunning, but I agree that he is the most loyal BJP member than anyone in BJP.

It is the duty of the opposition to condemn or agitate against the government. The governor should not act as opposition party. This is wrong. So the present governor is unfit to hold such a respected post.

There is a saying in English 'better stop singing when your voice is good.' This applies for a Singer.

Better the BJP in Karnataka State have to think seriously to step down if they have MORAL values. Don't show finger to Cong or JDS(S).

I am sure the governor is functiong without fear or favour. He knows and he can see that lots of nonsense is going on in Yeddiurappa govt. and as a man of principle he cannot keep quiet. Looks like he is not corrupt like Yeddy and his ministers. He does not have to fear anyone. Right is right and wrong is always wrong. What is Acharya trying to prove ? He is only trying to impress his boss.

No doubt of his credentials being a cultured person. However being in a party with a difference - and haeaded by a corrupt person some of it should rub on him . Please mr Education minister you are doing a good job. Please stay away from your unwarranted commentston the Governor and keep the education sector free of corruption.

The height of corruption and arrogance is BJP state govt. In what morality they question others - no one knows. One farmer gets inside jail for four days just asking question to CM. Is this democracy? Does BJP belive in democracy?

There is no doubt of where the governor comes from and what his political affiliations are. Ignore and go ahead. There is no need to react to his statements every time and waste time.
