Kaup, Feb 2: In a recent incident reported from Padubidri in the taluk, a vegetable merchant who was going home at night was waylaid by a gang which snatched away three lac rupees in cash and a golden ring weighing eight grams.
The vegetable vendor in question, Mansoor, named the robbers in his complaint as Hassan Basha, Firoze, Abdul Rehman, Nazeer, Rahilm, Illyas, and Yousuf, all of whom are from Kanchinadka, and Ajeed from Katipalla. In his complaint made to Padubidri station, he stated that he was threatened by placing a pistol on his forehead.

The gang had come in two auto rickshaws and two cars. They were armed with a pistol, knife, stick, saber etc. Mansoor was intercepted near the badminton court adjacent to Kanchinadka road bend and then threatened at gunpoint. After he was threatened to part with his possessions, Mansoor had to give them money and a ring. Mansoor is being treated as an inpatient in the government hospital at Ajjarkad, Udupi.
Kaup police circle inspector, Prakash, has taken charge of the case.
Mansoor had been named as the first accused in a case of posing life threat to Lokesh Kanchinadka, a Dalit leader. He had been arrested and had succeeded in securing bail after being in the prison for a few days. Ajeed from Katipalla who has been named as an accused in the incident which happened on Monday, was the second person accused of accepting a contract to eliminate Lokesh Kanchinadka.
