No mandatory enrollment of graduates at employment exchange: Govt

New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS): The Centre does not have any proposal for mandatory enrollment of graduates at employment exchanges across the country, the Parliament was told on Thursday.

Registration at employment exchanges across the country for availing employment-related services is voluntary, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The Ministry is implementing National Career Service Project to provide a variety of career-related services viz. job search and matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, etc and these services are available online on the National Career Service Portal, he said.

That is the whole problem. With no education/encouragement from the Government to enrol in the Employment Exchange system, let alone the graduates, most 18+ never make it to the Government statistics. And then the Government relies on some shoddy surveys, and announces extremely low unemployment rates.
