Mangaluru, Feb 12: "It is very tough to explain how and from where this controversy erupted,” said former prime minister H D Deve Gowda speaking on Hijab-saffron shawl row here on Saturday February 12.

He said, “Two prominent political parties are hurling allegations at each other. I will not make any allegations against anyone. A few people are waiting to create controversy. It is their calculation to obtain political mileage out of this issue. I never took political benefit on the basis of religion.

“We can see leaders gaining politically through disharmony. Unfortunately, this is increasing in the coastal region,” he said.

Answering a query on why H D Kumaraswamy should compete from the Chamundeshwari constituency, he said, “He is in the main position of the party. He can contest from anywhere from the party in the state. It cannot be said from which constituency he will contest. Kumaraswamy will not go away from Ramanagara. I am not sure from which constituency he will contest, but he will not go away from Ramanagara district.”

He said that JD(S) had given a good position to C M Ibrahim in the party. “Later, he joined Congress with the support of Siddaramaiah. The political development is fluctuating. I will never say that C M Ibrahim is not coming back to our party. But, I cannot read his mind. We do not know what will happen in the end,” he said.
