Function as Per Constitution, BJP Tells Governor

Bangalore, Dec 30 (IANS): The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party Thursday said it expects Karnataka Governor H. R. Bhardwaj, who has been criticizing its government in the state, to function as per constitutional norms.

"The BJP expects the governor to function within the purview of the constitution," senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley told reporters when asked about Bhardwaj's frequent attacks on the B.S. Yeddyurappa-led government.

Bhardwaj has been highly critical of the way the Yeddyurappa ministry has been functioning and over the alleged scams the chief minister and some of his ministers are involved in.

Jaitley declined to dwell more on the issue of Bhardwaj versus the state government.

The senior BJP leader has been given "special responsibility" to look after the Karnataka affairs in the light of allegations against Yeddyurappa that he has favoured his close kin with allotment of prime land in and around Bangalore.

Jaitley arrived here late Wednesday along with general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan, who is in-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, for a meeting of the party's core committee.

The two held talks with Yeddyurappa, state BJP chief K.S. Eshwarappa, Bangalore Lok Sabha member H.N. Ananth Kumar and other leaders forming the core committee.

On the Congress and Janata Dal-Secular's demand for sacking Yeddyurappa for his nepotism, Jaitley said the two parties should debate the land and other scandals in the legislature that begins its ten-day session Jan 6.

He said the issue of removing Yeddyurappa was not discussed.

The discussions were "essentially related to the political situation in the state" in the light of the elections to local governing councils. The elections would get over Jan 1 and the results would be out Jan 4. The first phase was held Dec 26, second phase is due Friday and the last Jan 1.

"We discussed at length the on-going panchayat elections. We are optimistic of doing extremely well," Jaitley said.

The committee would meet again after the results, he said.

Yeddyurappa has won a breather from the party leadership to stay on in office on the promise that he would lead the BJP to victory in the year-end polls.

He has been slapped indirectly by High court in a dissident MLAs case...He has been slaped by his own UPA for his recommendation of president rule in state,He has been repeatedly slapped by BJP state president and even many ministers...If he has a moral resposibility or to protect the respect of governor post,he should resign and go....If no,there is no difference between him and Yeddy....both are same..sailing in same boat.

Throw this governer Bharadwaj to sea. Its time to hit this governor with Cow dung, since he only hold the cow slaughter bill. This goverer has no shame to hold the honourable post acting as Congress agent. If President Pratiadevi acts like BJP agent then what Sonia will do.

For all: who is not corrupted in the state? For all Congress Supporters, I want to ask you one question: What Congress Did for our State in last 50 years? and what JDS did to Karnataka? Atleast they didnt even worked on road construction. A person in village can see the work done by BJP. The main work is Road. What Congress is doing for Shiradi ghat? Its like a hell in Shiradi ghat. the person cannot say that he will reach to destination is he/she is travelling over that road. They are not allowing Karnataka Govt also to start work on shiradi ghat saying that that road belongs to National highway authority and its the work of Central Govt. and they only say its their work but infact they donot do the work.. Leave abt working they dont even start the work. which is rediculous... the persons who are commenting here and if they come to politiocal party then they also do the same thing... Corruption cannot be stopped and instead u wil be joined in that corruption... Thats the situation in India.

Rajesh C. Bangalore, if that is the criteria, U have a non-kannadiga Guv. in the state. Ask him to leave! After all this Guv is one of the most controversial Guv. in the history of India, after Bhoota Singh, G.D. Tapase, Romesh Bhandari, Motilal Vohra etc. to name a few. By the way all these list of guv. are frm Sonia Congress.

NOW WE CAN SAY CM IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ANYBODY IN BJP CENTRAL ALSO. JUST BECAUSE OF LINGAYATH VOTE HE CANNOT SURVIVE ANYMORE. BJP IS WORRIED IF BSY STEPS-DOWN OR THROWN OUT THEY MAY LOSE NEXT ELECTION

Being a Senior Lawyer Jaitly should know that the Constitution is applicable to Yeddy & Co as well as to BJP also just as it is to the Governor. As BJP fails to clean its sins it loses all the credibility to rule any State.

Jaitley it's time to zip your lose tongue! People who have scant respect for Constitution, a party which has almost bought every nuances of the Constitution should not preach about the sanctity of the Constitution. The very fact that your party has deputed you to Karnataka to keep a watch over CM, shows how good you and your party is in keeping the Constitution. The entire nation has seen how far Bopaiah and CM followed Constitution when they called the police to the Assembly hall and the entire fiasco. Does your party know what it means functioning within the Constitution? Why criticize governor when the CM and his colleagues are giving enough fodder for issues? If Bharadwaj is functioning like the Congi agent as you claim, your history isn't without blemish when it comes to appointment and sacking of governors. M K Khurana, Chaturvedi were rewarded while Satish Chandran, a bureaucrat of highest calibre was sacked just because L K Advani didn't want him Goa. These are just a few examples. Then who can forget giving RS tickets to journos like Chandan Mitra, Sudheendra Kulkarni and Balbir Punj so that party remained in their good books? Messing up with the Constitution has become a habit for all the politicians irrespective of party affiliations and no politician is a Saint when it comes to abuse of power and money. If these words come from a commoner perhaps, they would carry some weight and not from people who live in the glass house already!
