Kundapur: Margao train given fresh number, treated as express - Commuters angry

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Feb 16: The Mangaluru-Margao train which was the only local train which used to serve the people in the coast to travel towards Margao has been changed into an express train. The southern railway has even changed the number of the said train and classified it as a special express train. With this, ticket prices have shot up. People are agitated at these changes.

The train, which served people visiting Goa and other places on the route, was being run at express prices because of coronavirus infection. Passengers and their committees had demanding reduction in the fare. But the southern railway, continuing with its anti-people stand, has now changed the number of the train and treated it as a special express train. The railway passengers and Rail Passengers Welfare Committee Kundapur have urged the people's representatives to take note of this and do the needful.

This is unacceptable. SR has converted into express train merely on the pretext of increasing the fare. As an express train it will have to skip many rural stations on the way and passengers will prefer traveling by bus. Such a move will bring loss to the railways. This train can serve the coastal region better only as local passenger train by stopping at all stations.
