Doha: Qatar's Largest Mosque to Open Soon

Doha, Jan 1: The state mosque here is all set to open its doors to worshippers in early 2011. This state mosque is all set to be Qatar’s largest mosque and can accommodate 10,000 worshippers at a time.

The mosque incorporates traditional Islamic architectural elements and with its distinctive doomed roof it will be an eye-catching example of architectural beauty and landmark building in Doha. The mosque has more than two dozen bigger domes and as many domes of smaller sizes making up the upper portion of the structure.

The land area of the mosque is 175,000 square metres with a built up area of 19,550 square metres on three levels. The parking space is spread over 14,877 square metres with the basement covering an area of 3,853 square metres. The main prayer hall for men is on the ground floor covering an area of 12,117 square metres.

Praying areas for men and women including library and halls is on the Mezzanine floor.
