Shimoga: Eshwarappa Worried About Phenomenon of Caste-based Politics

Shimoga, Jan 3: State BJP president, K S Eshwarappa, said that he is worried over the  phenomenon of caste-based politics that is becoming increasingly predominant in the recent past. He also expressed disappointment at the fact that many of the caste-affiliated conferences and conventions limit their activities just to submission memorandums and felicitating leading personalities from the particular communities.

He was speaking after felicitating the achievers at a convention organized at Mattur village in the taluk on Sunday January 2, as part of the ongoing ‘World Saketi Day’ celebrations.

“Caste is becoming an integral part of political strategies. Caste affiliation is being treated as an important factor in granting of tickets to party candidates. This is a deplorable development,” Eshwarappa felt. Expressing the opinion that the principles and ideals preached by Buddha, Basavanna and Ambedkar are time-tested and universally applicable, he called upon the people to follow in the footsteps of these leaders. He also stressed the importance of peace and harmonious coexistence in life.

“World Sanketi convention has its own significance. Both Mattur and Hosahally villages hold Indian culture high,” he said. Eshwarappa also thanked the people of Mattur, Hosahally and Mandenakoppa villages for steadfastly supporting him. Vidwan Markandeya Avadhani presided over the convention.

Chairman of state legislative council, D H Shankaramurty, speaking on the occasion, noted that native culture has lost relevance in many of the countries, and expressed happiness at the fact that Indian culture continues to be vibrant in spite of repeated invasions. He called upon the youth to stop the erosion of cultural richness because of western influence, and to retain the rich flavour of the country’s culture.
