Bengaluru, Feb 21: Even as speculations are rife that the Bommai government may abruptly curtail the current legislature session on Tuesday, February 22 way before its scheduled conclusion on February 25, the State Legislative Assembly on Monday passed four Bills, including the Karnataka Civil Services (Validation of Selection and Appointment of 2011 batch Gazetted Probationers), Bill 2022.

The opposition Congress members, who have been observing day-night dharna as a protest demanding the dismissal of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa for insulting the national flag, and carried out their protest inside the House on Monday too.

However, even amidst protests by Opposition Congress members, the State Legislative Assembly on Monday passed four Bills, including the Karnataka Civil Services (Validation of Selection and Appointment of 2011 batch Gazetted Probationers), Bill 2022 was passed for validating the recruitment of 362 gazetted ‘probationers’ of the 2011 KAS batch, Group A and B, selected by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

The Bill aimed at annulling the action taken by the previous government without proper approval of the State legislature. The Assembly also passed three other bills and they are: the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1944 (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2022, the Karnataka Stamp (Amendment) Bill, 2022; and the Karnataka Stamp (second Amendment) Bill, 2022.

It is rumoured that the legislature session is likely to end on Tuesday after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai's reply to the debate on the Governor's address.
