Bengaluru, Feb 22: Renowned physician Dr B M Hegde, author Sudha Murthy, Biocon Chief Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisor K Vijayaraghavan were honoured by the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy at a function held in GKVK campus in Bengaluru on Tuesday, February 22.
Dr B M Hegde and Science writer T R Anantharamum were presented with a gold medal and conferred CNR Rao Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2021 while Dr Idya Karuna Sagar of Nitte University was presented with Lifetime Achievement Award by Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister.
Biocon Chief Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisor Dr K Vijayaraghavan, author Sudha Murthy, Mysuru University Vice Chancellor Prof Hemanth Kumar, Kalaburgi University Vice Chancellor Dayananda Agasar, DRDO scientist Tessy Thomas and others were among the over 40 eminent science achievers were presented with Academy’s fellowship.
Addressing the function after conferring the awards, Dr Narayan said the benefits and fruits of scientific research must reach the lowest sections of society. It is time that the doors of science and technology and its benefits must be open to all, he said.
Dr Narayan emphasised the need for Academy to take steps to popularise science and assured that the State Government will take steps to encourage science and technology in public-private-partnership model.
Former union minister and MP D V Sadananda Gowda, MLA S R Vishwanath, Science and Technology Department Principal Secretary E V Ramana Reddy, Director Basavaraj, Academy Chairman S Aiyyappan and others attended the programme.
Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisor Dr K Vijayaraghavan and author Sudha Murthy addressed the function virtually. Books published by the Academy were also released.
