Bantwal, Feb 23: A squabble between a couple has ended in the fatal assault of the husband in the hands of his brother-in-law.
Bantwal taluk Tenkakajekar, Baramelu resident Keshava Poojary (47) is the deceased. The police have arrested his brother-in law Maninalkur resident Ashok alias Chandappa Poojary (45) in this connection.
Keshava Poojary was employed in a hotel in Mangaluru as a cook. He had come home on January 31 and had handed over his earnings to his wife Prema. He later asked Prema Rs 100 from it. An argument ensued between the couple in this regard.
Prema had informed about it to her elder brother Ashok alias Chandappa Poojary who had come home at that time. Ashok, interfering in the couple's fight, brutally assaulted Keshava Poojary. Keshava Poojary was severely injured in the chestand rushed to Bantwal government hospital by his mother Leela.
They lodged a complaint with the Punjalkatte police after obtaining medicines from the hospital.
Keshava Poojary fell severely sick on February 8. He died on the way when his family members were escorting him to Bantwal hospital. The neighbours complained to Belthangady police circle inspector Shivakumar who in turn directed Punjalkatte police personnel to get a post-mortem performed on the body. The post-mortem report from Deralakatte K S Hegde hospital has indicated that the death has occurred due to the brutal beatings.
Circle inspector Shivakumar and team who registered a case in this connection have arrested the accused Ashok from a hotel in Bajpe on February 21. The accused was handed over to Punjalkatte Police station later. Police have produced him before the court which remanded him to judicial custody.
