Shimoga: 23 Students Injured in Ragging

Shimoga, Jan 7 (DHNS): A clear indicator that proves that right examples may go unnoticed, but wrong ones create an impression and are emulated.

In a shocking incident, 23 class six students of Morarji Desai Backward Residential School in Tirthahalli sustained serious injuries after they were ragged and assaulted by their seniors on Wednesday.

The students were blindfolded and assaulted with sticks and belt, and had to undergo treatment at the J C Hospital. The seniors, class 10 students, had been ragging their juniors since the beginning of the academic year, but the victims, most of whom from weaker sections from neighbouring taluks, remained tight-lipped fearing retribution from their seniors.

On Thursday, parents of the victims staged a protest at the school premises demanding stern action. Following the incident, Zilla Panchayat CEO Hemachandra suspended hostel warden Pavithra Nandaraju and cook Kantharaju. Backward Classes
Officer Eranna also held a meeting with the staff members and parents.

    Ragging is
    treated like a wholesome fun
    being practiced in some colleges.

    Some students have committed
    suicide, after the bitter and
    torturing suffering of ragging.

If the seniors force the newly
arrived juniors to sing a song
or to tell a story, that can be
    classifed as a legitimate and
    wholesome ragging. But, some of
    the seniors are using the
    opportunity to impose cruel acts
    on the newly arrived students.

Do they need any excuse? They are
    criminals, and punish them as
    criminals.

Ragging is dangerous mental attitude of matured senior students. The guilty must be punished severely and required to send to rehabilitation centres under police custody. Ragging does take place may be because the seniors take undue advantage of the situation and moreover may have the influence of volatile drugs which create violence at that juncture. Institutions must take stingent Action.

It is unfortunate that we have people among us who enjoy the ragging. The students doing ragging have not been properly disciplined by their parents. Afterall! what you sow,so you reap.

Ragging is a just enjoying few days of our school or college days. However if the ragging gone out of control what happened?Every college and school students should strictly adhere to the rules and regulations. Any student found guilty of ragging wil be suspended or dismissed at the discretion of the managements. A bond or such legal terms consent should be made during the admission.
